Private Plate or not?

So my name is Simon, if you hadn't already guessed from my username

Back when i was 24 i bought the following plate and ran it on my E46 330, which is now long gone, but i kept the plate on retention. I have since been slumming it in an E36 M3 and a VX220, neither of which were new enough to put the plate on.

SP51 MOM, which i spaced SP 51MOM (yes i am fully aware this was illegal before people start giving me grief).

Question is the plate looks pretty crap with the legal spacing, so do i run the risk knowing i will only likely get a slap in the wrist and told to change it, or do i just sod it off completely and flog it for whatever i can get as its totally shite and completely pretentious?

I'm genuinely in 2 minds here so figured i would ask the collective?

Couldn't your mum use it?

Just a thought. . . .

As Zeds get older (particularly the E85/86) then it makes a little more sense to have a private plate.

I would hesitate to draw any more attention to my Zed from the Feds with illegal spacing etc - no thanks

As you can personalise your car for the same cost as a pair of rear tyres - whatever floats your boat really.

:driving:

Lol actually my mom probably could as here first and middle initials are S and P.

I think i might have a look for something a little less in your face and offensive, and like you say, less illegal :)

I would keep it illegal. Say it was your 'rally' plate and forgot to change it back to the legal ones - maybe keep them in the car?

What's a rally plate? Is that the same as rallying, cars side ways, lots of dirt, mental drivers, or like a 'show plate' which you would stick on for a car show?

I'm got symmetry OCD - so went for a plate with my initials, and 3 characters before it.

So, LNN LLL. I would have preferred three numbers NNN LLL, but they're silly money.

I have had this one for quite a while.

Its nothing personal to me,but came up at the right money and i like the symmetry..

I have a cherished plate with an early age letter two numbers and that ends with FCU. . . .

It came off an MX5 that my wife absolutely loved and wanted to remember so we kept the number plate and have transferred it to each of our Zeds.

I'm thinking it might have encouraged a few challenges on the road however and can give a bit of a distorted view of our attitude when we overtake or park up!

We seriously never thought of it until it was pointed out - we'd owned the MX for 5 years!

:driving:

Given how much (£250) you can get a non-dated 5 letter prefix style one, i think i will either just flog this on or keep it on retention. Seems daft making the car look older than it is.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction though

That's the way to go. I have several 5 digit plates in the household. No need to mess about with spacing, readily transferrable on almost any age car, dateless and cheap enough to buy.

I have seen a 5 digit plate that i am tempted to buy just for if i ever get a 3 rd vehicle lol, question is will i ever get a 3rd vehicle

One that is coming up for auction that i registered interest in is 77 SLP. The 77 has no bearing other than 7 is the wife's favourite number, but SLP are my initials. Will wait and see what it goes for! 8)

My Number plate is personal to me, S1 HPY - representing my full name of Simon Heappey - plus i think it looks pretty good on the car :driving:

Private plates seem to be a real "marmite" thing.
Personally I like them. We've got sequential number plates on our cars. I'm sure it winds up a few when they are parked side by side on the drive!

D5 *** E5*** E6***

ronk, do you park them i order lol

Her car and mine are on the drive and parked side by side !
The zed is normally parked in garage.

I wanted D5 E5 and F5 *** but when I came to buy F5 a well known plate seller offered it for sale, I paid a deposit only to be told that they hadn't got it! Hence the E6 on the zed.

Funny we have S2 F2 E5 and C7 all across the drive with relevant owner initials. Looks cool and gets a few comments
