Hi All,

Just wondering for those of you that have private number plates if any of the following vendors are any good?

Did a search on the forums but couldnt see a post I was after.

It would be nice to get a dateless or irish plate, but cant see a way to select them direct from the DVLA site, so others I have seen is

Regtransfers
Plates4less
nationalnumbers
and newreg

Has anyone had any dealings with plates4less? seem a bit cheaper than the others?

Thanks.

Things to look out for:

- some sellers don't actually have the plates but are selling as agent. You may pay for the plate only to find that it's already been sold.
- there will be extra charges over the list price, check these fully prior to purchase

DVLA have an all inclusive price and are very quick and professional. If poss, stick with DVLA and get a plate which is in format

LN LLL or LNN LLL

Best of luck with your search :)

+1 on DVLA's own site / auction listings
+2 Bought mine in 1994 for £250 - allegedly worth a grand now - will keep it till I croak as it disguises the age of whatever car I own !

+3 bought 2 plates from DVLA, quick, easy and no hidden charges... and going for 'earlier' registrations like A, B etc. are fairly ageless now :)

I have bought from Reg transfers and they were very good,it was about 20 years ago.I have also bought 4 from Dvla, mainly for the Grandchildren and I found them very good also.

I got mine from dvla direct about 7 years ago which is a letter number then my initials

Just ordered from regtransfers for the mrs similar plate. More expensive but only place that had what we want

Give them a ring the one I am getting is owned by someone else. It was up for 850 plus 105 transfer fee. Got it for700 all in as I made an offer. Just waiting for the paperwork to be updated by dvla.

The same plate is up on another site for over 1400 ATM

If you ring you can find out what the history of the plate is ie on retention or on a car and make sure it's still for sale

If the plate shows no VAT then they are acting as a agent for someone else

I had one on my last car from dvla, no problems at all. Not really suitable for the zed so I've offered it tomreg transfers who've offered to sell it on my behalf. They will sell for £750 and give me £400! Not a great deal in my book.

I did wonder how much they charged to sell the plate. That's a good bit of profit for sticking it on a website. When I rang up to speak to the sales guy I was emailing to buy the plate I spoke to one if his colleagues, I told him what it was about I was told they won't accept that they already turned down 800...little did he know my offer had Been accepted already 8)

I got mine very cheap off eBay... seller sent me the signed form, into a local DVLA office. £25 fee - transfer done...

Most of the internet companies that offer registrations don't actually possess the plates - they are still with DVLA. So, if you buy it from them, they get it from DVLA and put a mark-up on...

What do you reckon on this one ?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cheap-1963-ALC-ALICE-ALICIA-ALISON-ALLAN-C-Personalised-Number-plate-ALC-830A-/330768952063?pt=UK_Cherished_Numbers&hash=item4d035daaff#ht_500wt_922

Could it be on black plates because of the age, or would it have to be on regular plates ?

Little bit tempted, given my name is Allan C... And if I could have black plates that might look quite good on my black car...

I bought one from RegTransfers about 4 years ago. They did not have the plate but acted on behalf of a seller. Negotiations over the phone took about a week and we agreed on a price we were both happy with. They sent all the ocs to the dealer who registered the 'new' vehicle without hassle. A pretty painless process

B@lls - just answered my own question, can't be black and silver

Hmmmm. Think my brief interest has now waned...
