Private land Parking case - lost in high court

Tricky one, on one hand the guy was 56mins over his time slot so a ticket is fair enough, however yes it does give these private parking companies free reign to pretty much charge what they like, which is wrong IMO, it would be useful if the court could give a top out figure that they would consider to be appropriate in this case as a close guide as if they're not going to then yes it's open season. If that's the case then as they say in Hill St Blues, be careful out there. 
The case is about the overstaying, but that is not the only part affected. In my recent case, the invoice was for parking over the white line at an end space next to the parking garage wall (to get away from the car next to you). There was no space lost (it was a wall), but with this ruling it would be rather difficult to defend as I won on the "punitive nature" of the invoice.

I used to do this every time no matter what car I was driving - yes to avoid getting dings - am a bit more careful now though since getting a ticket for parking over a line on an end where no-one could park next to me anyway - as said in a previous post of mine I successfully appealed - nothing to do with reasonable costs etc - but the Gestapo man ( or woman ) recorded one digit wrong on the notice ( An X instead of a Z
) I always ensure my wheels are just within the lines now as no doubt my rightful number has been circulated 
Just on these new video camera parking systems.. what happens if you leave at 1 hour 59 and return 5 minutes later for another hour?

There is plenty of advice on this forum in respect of Parking Eye. I recall it was Carol who advised me to visit the Pepipoo website after getting a similar ticket from them. Followed the advice to the letter and they did not attend court so Iwon and they got the costs bless them. The answer is not to challenge the reasonableness of the charge, but their legal status to issue it in the first place. The only person who can issue such a charge notice is the owner of the land. Full stop, no buts. They must have a proprietry interest in the land (own it) Not even someone who is employed by them to manage the car park. The Police or a Local Authority can issue charge notices without owning the land.
