UPDATE (09:00 12-Oct-11)
Well, we've got agreement in principle, and Herr Schneider is 'sponsoring' our group with the 'Ring management to get us preferential treatment in the trackday allocation list. We won't know what dates are on offer until the end of the year or early in the new year though, due to the 'Ring having to play with the race calendar before seeing what's free. We're trying for a Monday or Friday to make it easier on those on day rates, and make it easier to get hotels (which will need to be booked by the individual). BTW, please don't circulate this offer on any other forum as we'd like to keep it to friends/colleagues rather than friends-of-friends-mother-in-law's-cousins

Just a quick feeler, but after last weekend's trip to the 'Ring, we decided that due to the amount of incidents it was getting painful waiting around so much for the odd lap of the 'Ring.
As most of our group are professionals, where time is money, we suggested we investigate the possibility of hiring the 'Ring out for a whole day (in the same format as the manufacturer 'pool' days) and splitting the cost evenly between the attendees - with no 3rd party adding any overheads/profit. This will also include a full retinue of marshals, rather than the circulating marshal system they have on tourist days.
Based on a cost of €25,000/day, we'd only need 50 people to attend to keep the costs to below €500/head (which is about the cost of a 25 lap ticket) - but we're going to cap it at 60 anyway which would mean the car park will look empty.
We've each been asked to find about 10 'trusted' drivers who like the idea of a private track day.
One guy is planning on bringing 10-20 customers and their Italian exotica, another is asking around his petrolhead colleagues at the European Space Agency, and I've said I'd asked some of the consultants I work with (with cars like Audi RS6, Audi R8, 911TT,etc.) and ask on the Z4-Forum (so I am).
There's nothing definite yet and it will depend on what the 'Ring is willing to offer, and how many firm attendees we can get. Also, as this is a privately funded event, we'd have to sort out a way of getting it paid in advance to guarantee the booking (with all the trust issues that brings). BTW, due to one of our group having a working relationship with him, ex-DTM driver Gert Schneider will be supporting our request, and may even attend/act as an instructor for the day. The days are
As it's a private day, European road insurance is invalid, so insurance is down to the individual, and will be 1st party only. If someone crashes into you, then it's your responsibility to have adequate cover.
So, as I said, just a heads up for next year, and to ask anyone seriously interested to indicate so in this thread.
