Prices of E89 Zed4

What I don’t like is talking to what you think is a sale man only to have him scuttle away and ask the Boss !

Why not just give the fella the margin £ and let him get on with the job?

I didn't say ALL salesmen (persons) are bad, just in my experience of car salesmen, I've yet to meet one who knows their product or cares about anything apart from how much money they can make.
Surely the fundamental requirement for any decent salesperson is to know your product better than those you are trying to sell to?
Maybe I'm just unlucky :|

Sadly a lot of car dealers, particularly main dealers, insist on it in this way and make is part of the sale process. I am with you if the sales person is good and experienced why not give them the margin they have to work with, rather than the continue back and forwards to the sales managers office 🙈

That is just a ploy for the gullible to think they are getting a great deal, its all bloody nonsense, they could clearly have given you the deal at the start of the discussion

It is so out dated and really silly, most people just want to be treated fairly and politely, which is very easy, yet places follow out dates sales processes that probably lose a fair few deals

'Buyers are liars' and 'nobody walks' thats what we were told when I sold cars... give away too much and you find yourself in a dutch auction with another dealership, give them a figure for a part exchange and someone down the road will better it. The guy out on his own, could he make a decision to buy a car or was he a BMWW (brave man without wife), if he was then re-appoint him with the decision maker... his wife. It all about qualification, not only on what someone wants to buy, but also their budget.

Yep - I totally agree that this way of doing it is crap.

Chances are most people know what their car is worth and what they should be paying for a car - just offer a fair price and probably make more sales as a result

Buyers are not normally liars - they are there to buy a car otherwise they would be in Tesco looking at Florence and Fred stuff.

Yes someone will always give a better price but at some point we are talking of £50 so why keep looking - the only thing that is important is the price to change and not much else other than APR maybe.

I am always asked for a budget and never ever give one, just a reason for them to try and rip you off, if I want to spend £350 a month then I will but it won't be on a bottom of the range fiesta, on an ST maybe so again it will depend what I am getting for my hard earned rather than what I want to spend.

In fact when I looked at a 330e company car - adding in tech, sport and premium packs only increased the price by £20 as the residual value increased significantly.

I usually ask what is the price to exchange and tell them I am not bothered about how much their car is or how much they give me for mine, all I want is how much it will cost me. I usually follow that up with that I want one figure and if I like I will buy there and then, if I don't I will walk away. Sometimes they let you walk but more often than not you get a deal.

Basically just said the same thing, price to change is all that matters - car can be £20k and they give me £10K so £10k to change and if it is £50 and I get £40k still the same.

Helping my sister in law at the moment and she has walked away from the car she wanted as it looked as if she was not getting fair value for her car - now looking at another dealer to see what she can get

More than once when faced with the "I need to take this to my manager" situation, aka as having a cuppa and letting the customer twiddle their thumbs, the salesperson has been politely informed that if someone is not sitting across from me with the authority to do the deal within 5 minutes, my custom was going elsewhere.

Whilst waiting to pick up my new car they had a used M3 competition, 2018 with 32,000 miles and they’re asking £68k, crazy

At least with this approach as a sales person you know where you need be, and it’s either or deal or not depending if the figures are achievable rather than continue back and forth 😄

Those traction spec cars are rare as it was right at the end of the run and barely anyone bought them in a 35IS so will be a rare car.

I would take a 35IS in Estoril but again super rare probably a handful made.

So it's well accepted fact that VO cars are faster. With Pure Traction interior they must be faster still!

I heard each gives an extra 15bhp

Only 264 VO 35IS were sold worldwide, compare that to over 2,000 VO 1Ms and you can see how rare they are. OK, the difference there is that BMW refused to make more 1Ms even though people were queuing up for them, whereas they would surely like to have sold more 35IS but no one wanted them...

I'd beg to differ that that is the fundamental requirement - as a wise man once said "The internet and all it's information gives us all the same knowledge as 'the experts' if we are willing to look for it"
