I spoke to a couple from the the Netherlands who were looking at my car. The fella reckoned that to buy the car in Holland would cost 120,000 Euros! Could this be true wonder. I have not looked on the bmw.nl web page as my, and probably most others here, knowledge of the language is limited!

If this is true I must have looked quite affluent! :D

Well, I know that a lot of European countries have punitive purchase tax on cars... but 120k Euros!! That's over £100k :o ...

120k? I'll be trading it in soon then for an M3
They are pricey here though, especially the 6 pot models as they don't have the best energy labels and the worse the label the more tax you pay :x The models with 4 cylinders are therefore somewhat 'less expensive'. sDrive20i starts at €47k, sDrive28i €53k, sDrive35i €66k and the 35is €76k, all with manual transmission. Found an old pricelist and the sDrive23i was €50.500 and the sDrive30i just over €59k. sDrive30i executive with auto trans is well over €65k. Now start ticking the boxes on the option list :D

... and then there's SINGAPORE... in a league of its own against the motorist

You can't see it in isolation though.

Denmark for example has complete dental care and other health care plans, including 9 months or so maternity leave for both parents paid for etc.

When I think what I paid for health care in the UK including dental, I would rather pay more for my car I think ...

IIRC you need a piece of paper that costs over £10k before you can even own a car in Singapore ? And then they REALLY start raping your wallet. They don't like cars much... Unless you're minted. Then you can do what you like, natch

I love the way that Switzerland have probably the most punitive speeding fines in Europe yet they are home to many of the top car tuning companies... how does that one work!

Well I don't feel like paying more tax on a car for somebody else to get enhanced maternity benefits! That's their decision, I don''t understand at all why I should contribute to it.

I think that's a lot more realistic ( €65k) I did think his €120k was a little bit over the top! - Nevertheless Its still a £53k price tag against a £45k UK price car. -and the folk in Holland are paying €1.89 (£1-50 / ltr)
