PREVIOUS Z4 Owners possible return... for a trip in Europe?

Hi Guys n Gals,

I've not been on for a while after selling my roadster late last year. I'm still yearning for something else, and in the running is a Z4 Coupe (by far the best value in performance vs cost), a Boxster S, or pushing the boat, the Cayman S. Costs for the cars rise in that order, as does insurance, so I'm still undecided given I live in Manchester which seems to be the most expensive place to insure a car ever.

What I'd really like to achieve at the end of this year, is a trip around Europe, cramming in what I can in one week, making my final destination Luxembourg where I have family, before returning to the UK. So the question is, has anyone else done runs in Europe, what huge mountains and green bits should I see, what to avoid, where to stay and so on... any feedback is welcome :)

Cheers

The Alps!

In particular the Splugen pass from Chur to Chiavena - what a hoot - haipin after hairpin!

Yep, done numerous european trips including the Alps (Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy), the Soca Valley in Slovenia, the Black Forest, the Massif Central and the Pyrenees. Most of my trips have been by motorbike though, but I'm sure the roads will be as much fun in a car.

Personally I prefer the pyrenees. Down through France via the massif central, across the Millau Bridge and then west towards Biarittz (sp), then back east following the pyrenees crossing back and forth between France & Spain, staying in paradores along the way. Another stop over in Andorra for some shopping, then onto Llavorsi for some White water rafting. Scenic route back to Clermont and then sit out the rest on the autoroute.

Or

down via the Ardennes and the nurburgring, through Germany and the black forest, a visit to dachau and berchesgarten, then a play In the alps for a few days, heading back via the french coast to Grasse and the superb route napoleon.

One thing I would really really suggest though, don't do so much that the trip becomes a chore. If you try to fit too much in, you will be forever chasing time.

If I can help with more detail, just ask.

Cheers
