after having all the gaskets in the engine fixed I have now found that when I remove the oil cap when the engine is running there is pressure! I have been told that this is to do with some filter in the engine , but apparently you cant buy the filer separate you have the buy the whole valve cover at £320 !!! I have Bmw insured warranty , will this cover it ? or does anyone know of any idea on how to revive my filter ! thank you

Hi, is your car burning oil? If it’s not & your oil level doesn’t need topping up regularly I wouldn’t worry about replacing the valve cover. When the engine breather goes bad the car tends to burn its own oil vapours.
Also, when you say pressure do you mean positive or negative pressure? Its supposed to be slightly negative, creating a vacuum you can feel whilst pulling the oil filler open :?

no the oil doesn't seem to be dropping but there has been oil dripping onto the exhaust manifold because of a leaky solenoid gasket which is being replaced on Monday along with new spark plugs . From what the mechanic said it seems the gasket has gone because of the filter being blocked! there is no smoke coming from the filler cap .

on the question of negative or positive all I can describe it as is like when you open a bottle of coke and it does that hissing !! :|

If you have warranty, let the dealer worry about it. It should cover stuff like this dependent on the level of cover.

I don't understand why you cant buy a filter separately , its ridiculous :headbang:

If it’s not burning oil you probably don’t need to worry about replacing the cam cover, so does the filler cap feel like it’s being held down when you open it with the engine running?
