The plan was always to show the US electorate the slightly more centrist side of politics with Biden. Once they had fallen for it, they give Biden 12 /18 months then send in the very left wing Harris. Labour are trying the same with Starmer with Andy Burnham or John McDonnell waiting in the wings.
