Preparing for Winter!

I've used snow socks in the past on my E85, did a great job for £80, although can be a right faff to fit. Just moved to an E89 with 19" wheels, can only imagine trying to fit them to these wheels without removing all the skin from my hands will be an even bigger faff!

I know the weather is seriously crap, we're having loads of rain too here, but talking about winter is just way too early for me :( I'm still hopefull the end of august and september/oktober will give us enough nice top down weather :) To talk about winter now is really putting me even more in a crappy mood :(

On the plus side it's sunny at the moment in London, the downside is I'm at work and can't go out for a drive

One of the advantages of retirement !

I am now a career codger and its my aim to be a net drain on the pension fund :D

I'll be driving my Freelander when the weather is too bad for the zed, otherwise I'll still be driving the zed albeit a little more carefully!

+1 although Land Rover decided to fit high performance summer tyres as it is an SD4 special edition :headbang:

My winters are on all year round (on the D3) - I don't do a big mileage or expect sports car cornering.

The noise is absolutely fine and the wear rate is much better than the standard pirellis that were fitted from new.

The forecast looks okay for Sunday down South at the moment. Might be able to give the Z4 a proper clean now the hosepipe ban has been lifted and get out for a drive with top down and take some pictures at last.

I'm toying with the idea of trading the Z3 in for something more winter friendly as I'm hardly using it since getting the Z4, kinda looking at these,

I think the Jimny might be a little rough on the roads though, but a great offroader.

I'm quite likeing the SX4.

You need a proper 4x4 :poke:

lol, there is no way that would fit in the garage :) so has to be smallish, the SX4 isn't 4 wheel drive unless you go for a 4Grip but apparently the 2 wheel driver is supposed to be good in the snow.

Your zed with winter tyres will be better than any front wheel drive car on summer tyres. If your going to swap your Z3 at least get a 4 x 4 with winter tyres.

Thanks Sars, any idea what the standard BMW winter alloys are for the Z4? I'm guessing 17s, ideally would prefer to stick with 18s if the dealer would do these, but prefer also to stick with winter runflats.

Although not using the Z3 much it would be hard to part with it :(

Amen to that!

In my youth I had an MGB with some pirellii M&S 35's on the back - It got up a very slippy snow covered hill in the Durham Dales whilst a friends Saab 95 on ordinary rubber only got up with much manpower and plenty wheelspin!

Laugh - You bet I did !!!!!
