Pre Oct 2004 Z4 retrofit cruise control problem

Having a problem retrofitting CC to my E85 3.0i M54. First of all, I definitely have a pre Oct 2004 car having checked build date on my BMW spec and in the engine bay as below:





I purchased CC stalk from local dealer but when i removed lower cowel under steering wheel, there is no sign of any 3 pin lead which plugs into the CC stalk. There is a green lead which I presume is the airbag; a white one which I presume is the indicators/trip computer and a lead running to the other side of steering wheel (just visible below white lead) which I presume is wipers. I've searched high and low, pulled various wires to see if its hiding behind them but no luck. This is a photo underneath the steering wheel:



I'm wondering if any other member had this issue and how they resolved it? Is there any way of checking whether the CC lead/wiring is actually wired into the DME control unit (or whatever it wired into)? If I can check, I would need to know what I need to look for, where it is, colour of wires, etc? Could it be the case that the car is now effectively a post Oct 2004 in terms of wiring and I will need to buy an additional wiring loom? Any help would be very welcome.

I think it should be very obvious. Mine is Oct 04 and I didn't have the loom. I think it's very likely there were cross over periods.

Your probably going to need to buy the loom, easy job though and I can lend a hand if you're local

you see the green plug that is plugged in on the right hand side of your pic it looks like that but black and unplugged and is tucked up in the other wires

Well it's a mystery it's not there but as you say Liam-O, maybe mine was in a crossover period and slipped through the net( unfortunately for me). I guess as my build date was 29/09/2004 according to my spec sheet, that's what happened.

Mine Aug 04 and I had the loom, it was tucked above the upper cowl... Was a small black plug if my memory serves me well

Well 7 months later, I've done it! Cruise control fitted. Can't believe its taken this long to do it as I was a bit hesitant in cutting any wires and hadn't a clue how to crimp. Had to go onto youtube to find how to crimp properly. To recap, I had a build date sept 2004 but didn't have the wiring loom for the cruise. Just taken it up the M4 for a quick spin and it's great to have it now as I've never had cruise control before in any car. I feel a long journey on the cards tomorrow probably will be sick of it next week!!

Well done! You were unlucky not to have 'plug and play'
You cannot beat cruise for long boring roads.
