Pre MOT checks

The dealer that services mine also mot’s the car and the service coincides with the mot date every second year.
They normally do a ‘free’ health check before an mot

Bloomin’ Heck that’s a lot of work. I normally just take my vehicles in a month early and they either pass or don’t pass. If they need work doing I’ve a month to get it done. Usually have it done with the service so always been okay, might get a few advisories but they can be sorted before the next one. Sorry if this seems a bit lacking but it is less hassle.

Headlamp wash sorted. The hole was a bit bunged up through lack of use.
As the car sits in the garage unused for months, I forgot that the MOT was due until last week. :headbang:

Each to their own fella, that's what makes us all different and the world go round

I just take it in.. if you're on top of keeping it clean and serviced throughout the year you'll probably know if owt needs doing.. served me fine so far

agreed

+1 for the pre MOT check. My preferred garage will only take a car for an mot if they know it'll pass. And any advisories will be listed on a separate piece of paper too, the actual mot will state a clean pass.

I am glad I did the checks because as it stood this morning it would have failed on the headlight washer.
Ten minutes of work later it won't fail on that at least, so worth doing IMO.

I use a MOT man who checks the things that would get you a pull from the police lights etc then looks under the car for a few minuets and checks the brakes on the tester and the emissions

He then comments on just how well I keep the car and waits a bit to print the paper work and says see you next year.

Well she passed with no advisories  Tester also came out and commented how clean she was underneath with virtually no corrosion. Made me a happy zedder. Straight home and back in the garage for another three months :headbang:

Is your car sorned?
No Ron, I re-taxed it last week. After the potential issues with insurance in the other thread and it is able to be used if there is a nice day, I couldn't be bothered to SORN it.

That’s what I have to deal with at renewal!
(March) Just have to see what they can come up with.

I find that if your car is looked after and serviced and all working well then not a lot for you to do really. I find the best thing to do is get it booked in for the test on the earliest you can, wash it before hand so its presented all nice a clean and let the MOT commence. If by chance it does need anything doing underneath then you have the time to get the repairs sorted before the MOT expires.

With the daughters car we book it in at my mates garage for the MOT and service, he MOT's it first which gives him chance to see whats needed if anything then does the service  Makes sense that way to me.

That's great news.

I always have a quick look around my cars before I go for a test and get it done a few weeks before the old one expires, just in case!
