Pre-facelift

It's probably becuase I own a 2005 pre-facelift but what is it about the facelift that "improved" the look? The rounded original front end so fits the whole car so well that I'm not sure what the re-design intended to achieve? :?

Well as an owner of a pre facelift that converted to a post facelift on the same car, I really like the new style and believe it's the way it should have been all the time.

To me the lower grille looked a little 'sad faced' wheras the new one has crease lines that match the crease lines of the car. The fogs are neater set and coupled with clear headlights just gives a much cleaner look.

Judge and decide yourself:

IMO the pre-facelifted bumper looks better and flows with the car better. The new bumper just looks like an after-thought (which it is) and was designed because BMW had to come up with a new design; it certainly did not improve the Z4's styling. If the Z4M was never built, I would've bought an 3.0Si and my first mod would've been to replace the front bumper with the old one and then to add the ACS lower lip.

That being said, the Z4M bumper OWNS BOTH!

I don't mind either one as long as both have clear lights, although I much prefer the ///M bumper to either :fuelfire:

Although the aerokit bumper looks as good as the ///M bumper too.

agree m bumper is the best...although i would say that as ive bought one and its getting converted on wednesday.

just need some clear headlights

I think the clear indicator lights depend on the colour of the body. I'd definately agree they look better on silver, black and possibly red, but other colours look to me a little monochromatic without the orange to set them off (i'm thinking Maldives or Toledo blue, Alpine white, etc.).

But, you can get clear lights in the pre-facelift style, and to me the facelift rear lights are just wrong. They just look like an attempt to fit in bar-style lights to match the rest of the range, when they really didn't need to. If they wanted to put some rectangular elements in then, by all means, swap out the pointless frenchfry and rear fog/reversing elements for horizontal bars. But the circular tail lights and semi-circle brake lights really enhance the "flaming" feel of the back.

As for the facelift front, I can take it or leave it. I favour round fog lamps in general (they just look like they'll work better), but I'd agree the shape of the facelift lower grille is more purposeful. But I'd also echo the "after thought" sentiment regarding the fold line below the headlamps; if it's an attempt to continue the wing shoulder line then where's it continuing to!?! It'd look much better without it. I'm also not wild about the reflector behind the headlamps; looks like a Boxster hommage which would be ok if it was an indicator, but that jobs already taken. Just looks cluttered.

where can I to change facelift front? I am in manchester. cheers

Most people buy a second hand bumper cover off ebay. Just check you get one with or without headlight washers to match the existing. On top you will need new style fog lights, corner reflectors and possibly the lower grille insert from BMW.

The bumper will likely need respraying by a local bodyshop for around £200, but that varies greatly. You can swap it yourself in under an hour or a bodyshop will do it.

I'm sure there are aftermarket who will suplly and fit but expect to double the project price

Our US friends have a right mish mash though, as they now get clear headlights, but orange reflectors, which doesnt look right on any car.
