Does this fit a 2003 E85 with manual heater/aircon? Or are there more components needed for a conversion to auto heater/aircon? (I would expect so..)

If it fits as a drop in replacement, I am interested :)

I would imagine so but couldn't tell you for sure, the connections on the back are identical so I presume it's a case of missing pins. They are physically identical so it would fit into the dash just fine.

It doesn’t work on manual climate control system

Interesting, are there other parts/wires that are missing or is it a coding thing?

I think the stepper motors are different. I am not sure of what’s different, but i have fitted one of these on a manual climate car, coded it in properly and it was still showing a huge pile of errors and the driver side defaults at hottest temp while passenger defaults at coldest.

I have a pre-facelift z4 and wanted the chrome knobs which some of the facelift z4's have. From reading threads of old on this forum it was advised to swap out the internal circuit board.
So my question to you is, did you use a pre-facelift climate control unit in a pre-facelift car or if your car was facelift, a facelift climate control unit?

Usel, I’m talking about swapping the manual controls for the auto ones without changing anything else. That is not doable.

If you already have auto climate you can swap whatever auto control you like, facelift or not, as long as you code it properly once fitted.

Thanks for coming back and updating us

Just wanted clarification because for those of us who cannot code if you want a facelift auto climate unit with the chrome knobs in a pre-facelift car that has auto climate then you need to swap over the internals.

Thanks again :)

But you need to code the unit in any case, unless you use your own climate control guts!

I’m really good at coding and I sell this kind of service locally in my area (I live in northern Italy).
Now I’m working on a new software which would allow me to code cars remotely, anywhere in the world, from my desk.

Community, let me know if this could potentially be of your interest!

So it turns out the internals of this one was from a facelift car but put in a pre facelift shell. It's still available if anyone wants it
