pre-facelift clear headlights

Hello!

I have a 2005 (54 plate) Z4 pre-face lift. So my car has the black headlights with the orange indicator at the bottom... I'm looking for the same style headlights but with clear indicators. Do they exist for my model?

Thanks in advance!

each? eek i'll have to start picking up those pennies you see on the floor! thanks for the reply.

I wonder if something like this would 'ease' the amber look (and look good too)?

i think it's illegal to cover the whole headlight, but not sure for just the indicator part.

one of those examples is a z4 but with clear indicators.

i think if you have black internals and black out the indicator you might get away with it, otherwise i wouldnt bother.

even just covering the indicator might be tricky, and might not look all that good.

a set of clear xenons just went on ebay for around £300 so you can get some bargains

That's not a bad idea. I think black would be the way to go, but you're right - it would have to be cut perfectly. Depends how noticible the film is.

although this guy sprayed his black it'll give a bit of an idea what to expect... http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9465&hilit=black+indicators&start=15#p142727

can someone confirm if tinting is legal or not? is upto a certain tint legal or does it have to be 100% clear?

here's my crappy 5 min ms paint job lol

i know headlights ''cant'' be taken apart. but im sure there is a way. then you could spray tint the amber

The only thing that would bother me about tinting indicators is it may affect for your insurance if you were involved in a shunt when making a turn i'm saving my pennies for a new set from BMW

hmm... i wish i was brave enough to have a crack at the headlight conversion in that link! The tinting seems to be the only option but I want clear indicators rather than black. Seems like the only way to do it is to spend spend spend :(

It ain't that hard guys - after all I've done it a few times now :)

Tinting is OK. There's a thread on here somewhere where one of the guys masked his headlights and spayed the indicators in smoke. Looked really good. IMHO this is probably best suited to black inner lights, rather than chrome, but hey it's cheap and reversible.

I'm sure there is a US site that sells laser cut decals to mask the amber too.

Search is your friend...

Fancy doing it one more time? lol. This may be a stupid question, but if I went on ebay for example and bought headlights from a facelift Z4, would they fit my pre-facelift Z4? I'm not sure if they are a different shape or have different connections? I'd kill to have the angel eyes, but i'd settle for just the clear indicators.

Ha yeah. Though I say it myself they are rather cool.
facelift will fit but need a lot of work, parts and coding. Not worth it

I may do 1 more set of lights this Autumn but it takes time , which I have little.

Old thread I know, but just to update you all (in case anyone is interested), BMW are quoting £317.39 + VAT for each light if you want headlights with clear indicators for the pre-facelift model (excluding fitting). Rather expensive, but if anyone is looking for them, they you go!

I think that's been the standard price since around 2005 when the clear lens was launched for prefacelift. Xenon are a lot more at around £750 inc. each
