Pre-facelift buy

Hello guys, I am new here. I am a young guy with a limited budget. There is no car in the entire world that fascinates me more than an e85. I been looking to buy a manual 3.0 e85 but I was considering a pre-facelift since I learned that the engine is more reliable (less electronics), I also like more the style of the pre-facelift. Note, I live in Lebanon and the roads here are *terrible* so many advised me to not buy a z4 since they have a harsh suspension. Any advices? Thank you

i think the harsh ride idea is because of the run flat tyres - the ride is better without run flats, i have run flats ( not by choice) and i dont find it too bad on uk roads

I have an pre-facelift 3.0 with normal tyres and the ride is still quite harsh. I am not sure if it's because my suspension components need refreshing or if it is just like that always. Mine has 68k miles. I also have to go extremely slow over every speed bump as the car is very low to the ground. How bad actually are the roads where you are?

If the roads are as bad as you say, you could go with smallest alloys you can get with larger profile tyres so you have more rubber to absorb the bumps, the standard run flats are awful on our roads (UK),

Pre-facelift 3.0 without Sport suspension. Standard SE suspension and 17" wheels will help. Check the chassis number in VINchecker to confirm if suspension should be SE.

Thank you all guys you've been very welcoming and helpful. I guess after all there is a certain amount of magic in the z car, it is just so special that I am willing to overlook all the cons. And yeah! Lebanese roads are the worst. We adore the Bavarian brand in Lebanon(like 70 percent or more of young drivers would go for a 3 series as their first choice) but z4 are so rare here. I assume there are less than 50 e85/86 zs in suppu the whole country.
Thank you all again for your support.

What do you define as bad? I'd consider most of the roads I use as moderatly bad.

A nice set of 17" wheels and non-runflats, plus possibly a suspension refresh and you should be fine!
If you can find someone who owns one of the 50 cars then you can ask them, as they'll have actual experience?

It's a great car and hopefully you'll find one with a setup to suit you

Thank you sir and sorry for taking so long to reply, I appreciate your advice. Actually I nearly asked a lot of them! And they are absolutely in love with the car. Hhhhh she is just something else and it will still worth it to me even if it cost more than 100k.
Wish you all the best.

Thank you so much.
It is special let me tell you guys, BMW enthusiasts are just different! They are deeply passionate about their cars. It is not about the impression they leave on others or about the show of. I feel like if they were offered to switch their cars with even more luxurious/expensive brands they will stick to the brand that cares about driving (Although the latest models except the Ms are a bit of compromise).

Pre facelift 3.0Se had sport suspension as standard.

Yes, I just discovered that a couple of days ago
Got the wheels right though. Maybe OP should settle for a 2.5 instead? Or post-facelift 3.0 SE.

Thank you sticks, I appreciate your reply.

Hello again guys, hope you are all doing great! You have been very helpful so far and I have another question:
I am only considering a 3.0 e85, I learned that post facelift 3.0 engines produce more BHP but what about the fuel consumption? Is there any relevant difference in mpg and fuel consumption between M54 3.0 and N52 3.0?
And what about the overall performance of the car, will that make a significant difference?
And my last question is: can I fit the Pre-facelift rear lights on the post-facelift? I really like them better!
Thank you for your support.

I think the post-facelift are less powerful than the pre-facelift (something like 177bhp v 192 bhp). But the post-facelift Si version, in Sport or SE spec, produces more (something like 210bhp I think).

So my personal choice would be a post-facelift 3.0Si SE.
