Practically of a lowered Z4

Morning all,

Just a quick question for those on Bilstein & Eibach setup, how much of an issue do you have with speed bumps, grounding etc.

I’ve had cars on coilovers before, so I know what a pain a very low car can be, but saw a nice E86 yesterday on Bilstein & Eibach (I believe - was done before current owner so he couldn’t confirm) but we didn’t really encounter any speed bumps during test drive and I didn’t think to search for one.

He had a relatively minor slope on his drive, but said he reversed on as it was easier to get the car out that way without scraping?

Any input valued as usual

Virtually no problem at all.
2800 miles round Europe on that set up and I grounded maybe 2 or 3 times. Only on the steepest of angle changes in parking garages or massively uneven Prague cobbled streets caused me to ground out.

That’s great, thanks....

Have you got a photo that shows how low your car is that you could post by any chance? So I can compare 8)

Bike on the back probably represents the same amount of extra lowering a full boot of road trip gear would provide.

The only thing I have caught so far has been the OEM mudflaps when I went over a sharp speed hump , but so far seems OK. Having had lowered cars before, you do sort of become aware moreso of things in front of you etc.

for me lowering is a nightmare, never have another, bloody nightmare - but it depends where you live eh, i live in speed hump central - i never had any reason to not till i bought this zed with msport suspension. and moved to burton :headbang:
and mine is nowhere near as low as z4gaz's car

That’s great, thanks. Thanks almost exactly how the car I looked at sits.

So you have issues running standard MSport set up?

I have issues at times running a standard MSport setup.

Though I'd note there's 112k on those dampers and they're probably shagged.

no problem at all and there are some evil speed bumps where I live :x

Blimey, that must be one heavy bike and rack if it contributes to lowering your suspension!
A Saris Bones could help reduce your overall weight...

The boot may have been full of beer as well in preparation for a lads weekend away

Bike was about 35lbs in that pic, now down to 32lbs, rack just a halfords jobbie, so not massively heavy.

My car on 100k Msport suspension used to catch on a few bumps near me, not been a problem since I replaced everything.

Msport suspension on my zed allows for very careful speed bump clearance. I go on detours to avoid the bloody things.

I have an e86 on eibach and bilstein. Not a massive issue most of the time, but do scrape on larger speed bumps and steep driveways.

Hopefully pic has attached properly for reference

Never had an issue with mine and we have some absolutely massive speedbumps, aswell as train lines, in my workplace which I have to drive other 10 times a week. My town also has speedbumps on the main road, so I'd say my car gets it's fair share of obstacles!

Bilstein B4's and Eibachs on mine. Sits well and drives fine.

Thanks for all the input, I’ve gone with an E86 on standard MSport suspension... but may lower it in future

My 2,5si auto have Eibach's and Bilstein B4's. Think it sits very nice and even. The top mount rubber on the rears is 15mm thick. Tried with the original 4mm first, but it looked a bit too much like an old Capri. Reasonably ground clearance. Won't ground unless i forget...
