Practical sporty car

Woots - don't rush into it. Last time I heard, pregnancy takes nine months and that's once she catches. You've got many more miles to enjoy before the axe falls!

Sorry to hear it's the end for now of your 2-seater days. I kept a 2-seater until my first born was 10 months old but then had to sell for practical reasons. She's now 7 but things have changed again which means I can have another 2-seater. I'm sure the same will happen to you - even if you have to wait and be the cliche old man in a sports car. At least you'll be happy.

cheers mate, i know ive at least got next summer to enjoy her until i need to get rid, and by then the m3's will have depreciated enough to get one because the new one would be on the horizon? and letting go of her for something with a v8 will ease the pain, and i prob wont care once ive got a little child to look after, but still want a nice car

Woots, having children (or a child in my case) is a great experience - it is the only reason we are on the planet when you strip back all the material goodies we love to have or do. IMO of course... Make no mistake though, it will completely and utterly change your life, and every single one of your and Mrs Woots' priorities, so whilst you want a 'nice' car, you may not be able (or want) to afford yor definition of nice... But there are nice cars out there that aren't v8s.

You are steadfastly ignoring the Ford option, lol, but once you get past the badge, the STs are something else. More brutal, less refined feeling than the Z, and of course you have an ///M so slower, but great, great fun on twisties and much less chance of killing yourself as it's FWD and very forgiving. Of course if you want a practical v8 then a Monaro might fit the bill. And they sound epic indeed

i know your right mr bing, i know
and i know i dont need a million bhp, i ll want something which does everything
i guess i could always buy myself a cheap old tvr in a few years to run alongside the family run(t) about
im just trying to hold onto my sportscar days hahah! but i know everyone here has been there and done that etc
and a monaro only has 2 doors, so its a no
rangies look bloody nice inside though dont they

If you buy a Range Rover Sport Supercharged you'll spend more time in the filling station than on the road. They are a proper guilty pleasure though...

Wise words from Bing :)

Make a note, happens very rarely :D

However, getting your in-country girlfriend pregnant whilst on a job only scheduled to last 7 months in the far east, then getting married and moving her back to the UK, at the tender age of 26 in the middle of swanning round the world on an expense account, with marriage and kids just a possible future ambition when I was a lot more sober...kind of gives 'life changing' a whole new meaning. For the record, I coped with it appallingly at first, but life is pretty good nowadays :P

does your wife not drive?
surely a cheap 2nd family car would be better
lol read the thread :)

Another vote for a 535d ( or 550i v8, or even 530d) - get a Touring M-Sport with the Panoramic Sunroof, full media with hard disk & the 2012 idrive, awesome car :D

As much as I'd love a Rangey or newer X5, with the price of fuel it just breaks my heart knowing how much extra weight you're carrying around.. Currently rocking a C220 CDI Estate, hugely practical, plenty quick enough & I'm getting 55mpg :D

a 550i is prob all the car anyone needs
the noise of a v8, plenty quick...and you can take the dog!! as well as the family canine
im almost gonna have fun seeing what i can swap the zed with, i just dont want anything with less powwweeeerrrrrr :driving:

This (from Pistonheads).

Then use the cash left on hookers & coke - or on a Caterwestical and some track days

Oh dear, that's waaaay too close to me - just along the road (I recognise the photo location). Totally innocuous car, not particularly quick but what a noise

On a serious point, I seriously considered a 545i/550i e60 but was scared off by running costs and the potential for something to go wrong. Ended up with an e90 330i but imagine an M3 saloon to fulfill any role as a Z4M's practical replacement perfectly. If my budget was (far) higher I'd probably be driving one...

That Passat is a beauty !

If insurance was not an issue, my son would have that in a flash ...

I was amazed that for a car that only weighs as much as a Z4MC and has less power it uses 50% more fuel.

The current W12 Phaeton will be a bargain someday too!

Monaro's have 2 doors, VXR's are 4 door ( I think). 3 series touring with 6 cylinders, petrols cheaper to buy, 5 series touring,Mercs are old man's cars,Audi's are cock's cars.Good luck with the family and car shopping. :D

You can get the face lifted V8 Cayenne S now for under £20K we looked at one before getting the Z4 but couldn't get a decent trade in price for our Jeep GC.

Lot's of choices, you've got at least 9 months to have a few test drives though :)
