PPI Claim Rip Off

Never much thought about a PPI claim until I was contacted by Barclays by letter who advised me that on on loan taken out 8 years ago I might have a claim. Shortly afterwards I was inundated by calls an e mails from various claims management companies - several letters and conversations suggested that no win no fee meant that if I did win the assisting company would take about 1/3rd of the clim for their work :o

After a few internet searches I constructed my own claim letter and off it went to Barclays. Two weeks later and a Barclays a cheque for £4001 to settle my claim which included the original premiums ad interest :D . If I had gone with one of these so called 'claim companies' it would have cost me £1300...... a complete rip off.

So if you are in this position and considering a claim then do it yourself you ave nothing to loose and perhaps like me £1300 to gain

........and Mrs J has the cheque :?

Well done you [emoji3]
These claims management companies really annoy me. I'm sick of phone calls from them when I have nothing to claim for.
And obviously the cheque is in safe hands [emoji6]

Great result, Mines a shandy! Tough drink driving laws in Scotland!

Why do you say that the claim companies are rip off merchants if they tell you how much they will take for providing a service?

PPI was a rip off as it in most cases would not cover you, i.e. false pretenses.

I never looked it up in great detail, but self employed would never be covered nor pensioners for starters.

I think AlanJ would fall in the first category.

But if you use a claim company you'll be able to claim off them in a couple of years when they are revealed as being as shady as the original wnakers :)

Strange thing is when I had a mortgage, they were asking at the time if I wanted PPI - but as I was self employed, I asked what good that would be so they did not put it on the mortgage itself. How come so many people fell for it then as a single question would have clarified it?

The point was pvr that they included it without asking if you wanted it on many products. 80% who have claimed successfully never even knew they'd paid for it.

Interesting though, I pulled out my mortgage document from 1999 and the payments were clearly broken down in interest, PPI, Contents, Building insurance documents.

I never had any other loans so don't know if PPI was used for car stuff or so where it might have been less obvious but any financial document I have seen / processed was always fairly detailed in breakdown.

I think some did and some didn't. I've just started investigating mine. I didn't knowingly sign up for any PPI. But I can only recall being asked about twice whether I wanted it or not.

Get your claim in :) - basically if you were paying for PPI you almost certainly shouldn't have been !

PPI amount on the breakdown was "0" as I asked the question what that was about and confirmed that it would not be applicable to a self employed person.
