Powervalve Exaust

Spoke to a guy called Nigel today at powervalve. They want to use my car to produce an off the self system for Z4M.

I'm going over in a couple of weeks to see some systems in action and discus the system and agreement in full.

From what I can gather the system should be a straight swap.

There will be a small charge to me but will be greatly reduced.

I have never done anything like this with the Z4 before so any advice welcome.

(Thanks to mmm-five for putting me on to them)

The engine and exhaust on standard setup sound just so right. It's pretty much why we all bought the car, right? I haven't heard one after market exhaust on this engine that enhanced it. If I had to change it I would at least stick with the brands people have on here eisenmann or rpi. Just my opinion.

I definitely didn't buy mine because of the dull/quiet exhaust sound :P

Here is a quick review, if slightly different as its on a turbo.

I love my car but a little more noise would be good. A system that lets you drive normal at almost OEM volume levels then opens up when you give it the beans will be perfect.

I,ve had a few exhausts built for westfields, but I knew exactly what primary and secondary pice length and can size, so perhaps not quite the same.

The Ferrari had a bespoke larini fitted, made a good noise but it was a bit boomy, so my advice would be to be by clear on what you want it to achieve and how they will deliver this. Afterall what you want might not be what they want to sell.

... so quick design brief, make it oem quiet at 3k rpm, anything above that make it sound like an f1 car, reduce system weight by 10kgs, and oh... if you can get 10-15bhp increase that would be nice :]

A special discount for fellow z forum members would be cool

That's about it. BBP gain might be a bit optimistic lol.

yeah, spose, but going on other performance exhausts 3-5% increase should be achievable even without changes to breathing/intake.
It's going to be pricey for non-ginuea pigs though, their single back box system is £1500, so a twin back box solution is going to cost extra :(

However, I do like the valve concept, if they could work it like the porsche switchable sports exhaust and link it to the sport button that would probably be ideal

The powervalve version for the M3 is just over £1000. So shouldn't be too bad if we can blag a discount.

I agree with this, except to say it could do with volume turning up a bit. A Remus/AC Schnitzer is the best I've heard.

Looking forward to seeing how this turns out

ATM I'm looking into ss powerloop next Easter purely for the power gains

But keen to see alternatives

I'm with mmm-five I'm afraid

Mine had a really loud SuperSprint exhaust on it when I bought it. I have now returned to a (more less) stock exhaust, and the car is much the better for it in my view.

I find the fascination with exhaust noise a bit puzzling really. Within reason I couldn't really care what it sounds like; I care how it goes.

I would generally agree but few things make me feel as good as being on a drive and hearing that straight six blare bouncing back at me from the canyon walls when i nail that perfect heel-toe downshift. My RPI exhausts have horrendous drone but i honestly love them just for those 3 times out of 10 when i can use the car properly and listen to that gorgeous soundtrack.

Just called them back to chase things up (as they requested).

Just waiting for a call back, should be going over this week for a chat.
