Powerflex Bushes

Also in that document... wow!

Note:
- In an extreme case, standard tires can be temporarily substituted on the same wheel (rim) if RFT is not available.

Clearly safe to do then.

I've now had 3 attempts at getting these bushes off the car to replace them, and can i do it :headbang:

Did you leave the wishbone attached and just 'knock' the rear bush off? (this was my first unsucessful attempt)

I've had a go at removing the wishbone so i could get it on the bench and have a good ol' hammer about, but cant seperate the wheel side ball joint, even after soaking in penitrating oil, using a clamping joint spliter and even tried heating the case!!!

Anyone think of any other ways to split the ball joints or get the bushes off? :poke:

They are a bit of a pita to do. When I did it I unbolted the lolipop which allowed the bush to drop lower. I drilled the old rubber bush leaving just the steel bush/sleeve attached to the wishbone. 2 minutes with an angle grinder had a groove in it that with a few taps with a cold chisel split it and allowed it to slip off the wishbone.

I'm sure it could be done with an appropriate pulleym but I didn't have one of the right size to grip it.

No need to split the ball joints to do it.

Ok, thanks for that. Did you take off the metel panel thingy (looks like a subframe but is quite flimsy) to get better access to the bush?

Yes of course. I don't think it's possible without removing that. Don't drive with it off though as it's a reinforcing plate!!

Ahh ok, might make things easier. You can get the bush unbolted with it in place, just not enough room to work with it.

Thanks, attempt no. 4 then, lol.

IIRC the TIS (electronic manual) specifies its removal.
