I have to say this information is a pile of crap!!!

No offence to you Sp3ctre, you didn't write it. No wonder BMW technicians often get things so wrong!

First of all, it states open both windows fully, then suggests doing things to the windows, then goes on to state repeat for the other window. How many sodding windows are there FFS? Also, there is a deinitialization section, then an initialization and then another reinitialization section!

Section 6 states close the windows and hold for an additional second, then section 7 suggests close the windwos with the one touch. Whoever wrote this so called technical document wants stringing up by the short and curleys and shipping to Siberia.

And what the hell is the battery charger all about!?

Very, very confusing. :x I've printed it out and hung it in the toilet.

yeah, on hind-sight (which you might get in the toilet) it is a bit rubbish... I didn't realise I had already posted another thread about this:

http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=196

Is that better, or is that crap too? :?

Well, in actual fact if you simply do this (which is based on the original content) it works and it fixed my issues!

Issues: My windows did not work properly with one touch. Also, when closing my hood, after holding the hood close button down the passenger window would close but the driver's wouldn't, which had to be done separately.

I opened the driver's window fully and when it had reached the bottom, I then pressed the button a further four times. I then closed the window fully and held my finger on it for a second or so. I then opened the window by approximately four inches, and then closed it again and held the button for a second again.

I repeated the whole process with the passenger window.

Both windows now operate properly and after closing the hood and holding the hood close button in, both windows close.

All of this stems from Sytner in Coventry yet again not doing their job properly and re-setting the windows after changing the battery.

I'm really not a moaning type of person but, that garage have clearly been negligent with the pre-checking of my car, and have failed in a number of ways to deliver a car with even the most basic of pre-delivery checks carried out. Their communication and their attention to even the most basic detail has been non existent.

Sorry if my post sounded very negative, but the subject matter did help me in the end albeit with a certain amount of confusion.

Keep up the great work, great forum.

I'm having similar problems with my windows & have tried the initialization procedure. When opening & closing the window, do you press the button fully as far as it will go; or just the first notch? When I tried the passenger window procedure this morning, at one stage the window wouldn't open at all & I had to turn the ignition on & off.

I found that the simple reset in the other thread was only a temporary fix.

When I did the full procedure,(deciphered from above) including the de-initializing;
the windows have behaved for the last 2 months

The IMG #3 is a repeat of the IMG above it & should be removed.
[edit: sp3ctre] : I have removed the 3rd image

Otherwise the procedure is accurate. (except for the plethora of windows  )

The reason for the battery charger is so that it doesn't get drained.
You could do the procedure with motor running instead.

Just to resurrect this, the above technical bulletin came in very handy when my BMW dealer told me that there is no one touch window raising function on the Z4. My battery had gone flat and the one touch operation had failed as a result. The car is at the dealers for some warranty work and I asked them to fix the window. After being checked by a technician I got a call to tell me that the Z4 doesn't have the function in question so it was a joy to quote them the bulletin reference. The lack of knowledge and/or laziness at the dealers never ceases to amaze me.

Please name and shame the dealer in the feedback section! :D

Douglas Park BMW in Hamilton have failed to fix the one touch function in my windows and even went as far as fitting a new control module today only to find that they still can't get it working. I have taken the car back off them in disgust until they await for a fix from BMW. In the meantime I have used the above instructions and have now got the one touch working when putting the windows up, however, I can't get them to go down using the one touch. Any pointers or suggestions?

I've tried it several times, de initialised and then initialised but it won't work on the downward motion. I'd love to get it sorted for when I go back to have a war with them on Monday, they have been really appalling with this and other issues.

I certainly will, I'll post up my experiences tomorrow when I've got more time.

Tried this to the letter and it doesn’t work (for me anyway). Gutted. Both my doors won’t do the positive seal thing any more. Meaning the doors won’t close properly, hit the roof seals, leaving the windows bent out (with traffic noise coming in). Pretty desperate to fix this as I’ve tried EVERY fix listed for days now :( 2004 Zed… :fuelfire: :headbang:
