Power Upgrades

Hi, has anyone had the AC Schnitzer E89 Z4 2.0 power upgrade installed? If so what do you think?

Thanks for any feedback on same

Has anyone had a power upgrade on the s20i from any supplier? Any feedback appreciated.... or swop mine for the 28? I do think there is a lot to come from the smaller 2000cc 4 cyl engines. I notice the new Honda Civic R will have 270BHP :o

I used to have an E85 2.0 and had an ECU remap done on this (different era I know). The results were noticeable and frankly not as impressive as one may have expected but if you want my sincere advice, if funds are not a restriction, go for the 28i or above.

One question though- the 20i and 28i have the same engine right? The 28i has a souped up tune? I guess if you can get the20i tuned up to 28i for a fair price that would be good option.

Good luck either way :)

Not sure if anybody has gone with the upgrade :?
Maybe this thread might help - http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=49307&hilit=ac+schnitzer

From what I was told by the salesman at my BMW dealer, the 20i engine is exactly the same as the 28i engine but with different mapping (tuning). He suggested it was better to buy the 20i rather that the 28i and wait for the tuning to be developed, which it will be, given a few months.

Hi Ollie,

Personally if going for a tuning package I would go ACS all the way. Have found them in the past good to deal with and helpful. Although costly their work is warranted and are reputable.

I believe the only mechanical difference between the 20i and the 28i are the injectors, after that its down to the ECU mapping. One Tnuing specialist was telling me that he believed the injectors in the 20i limit the engine's potential to around 220 - 225 BHP. He also went on to say that BMW have taken precautions to make re mapping much more difficult. In his opinion, the extra effort required to develop re mapped software, together with the limited market whilst the oldest 20i s Drive's are still within manufacturer warranty periods, means tuning options will be few and far between ( or expensive ie ACS expensive ) until around 2015.

Hi All,

Thanks for the feedback. Think I will hang on a while to see if BMW release anything :?

I would be surprised if they release anything for the E89 Ollie as its such a limited market. They've done power upgrades for the 1 Series in the past but I guess its a more captive market and higher take up.

Yup unfortunately BMW have a history (and understandably to a point) of only offering the best add ons to their best sellers, 1/3/5 series mostly.

Well, I will wait and watch

Did have a look around for a 'newish' 28 but are very few and far between :( Really like the E89 Zed though and it looks like (reading very recent press releases) that 300BHP is going to be the new 2000cc 4 Cyl performance norm
