Power steering reservoir

Hi all,

How does your power steering reservoir look? Mines is covered in crud, looks like its covered in old oil. There doesn't seem to be an active leak but doesn't look good. I'm guessing these are meant to be clean? It's the reservoir below the air box

Cheers

They do sweat oil vapour out of the vent ..

Just clean it up and it will stay claean for a while..

A quick wipe over every month will keep it mint..

Thanks for the reply :D I had never noticed it before but decided to have a look around the engine bay with a torch tonight! Will clean it up and take it from there. Bit awkward to get to though.

Cheers

Don't worry. All hydraulic power steering systems sweat. Just be thankful you have the real thing, not the electric double-condom insensitive substitute I have to put up with on my 3.0si.

 I did have the 3.0si before the M so do know what your talking about! Was a nice engine though :)

Does yours make a bit noise when you get to full lock?

Yes it does. As all my previous hydraulic power steering have always made.

PS : the reservoir on my Z4MR is also a bit "oily", as is every thing around and beneath it. Since the level of liquid does not really seem to be lowering, i guess that most of it comes from a spilling last time it was changed/refilled...
