Power Steering Failure

No, you undo the bolts that hold the motor to the column, just enough so you can move the ring. Mark the position before you move it. Then try about 5 mm at a time.

It's been a long while to get this sorted but it's all fully functioning now, finally. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and experience when it comes to Z4's... You literally helped me save lots of cash. You stuck with me ever since the first post on here and I appreciate it! :driving:

I'll echo that. Everyone on here is very keen to help others with their problems.

After reading several threads on here and in no small part to Firebobby's advice my EPS has been fixed.

Although I have not got my car back yet Ross at RBM has removed and refitted my EPS motor/ecu and confirmed it is working again after being sent to ECU testing for repair.

Ross also had another Z in with the same problem and ECU testing's repair again fixed that.

It rains in Israel !! :o
Looks really clean, enjoy your new steering and the car now

Ross is a top fella, he did my roof motor relocate a few years ago

@lowzed , did you figure this one out?
I got the 611D code now, and cant find what causes it.

It does sound like your ECU is going faulty.
When you have the problem, is your sports button mode still working

No the sport button only works when the power steering is working
Yup, classic symptoms.
Get the EPS motor out and sent off to ECU Testing for a refurb.
Do it through their eBay site and its a bit less £295.
Depending where you are I've done a few now and happy to help. If too far away then PM me and we can talk through it.

Forward job thanks
Ah yes, a fair way from the middle of Norfolk then.

Relatively easy if you know your way around a spanner or two.
I take the seat and steering wheel out first as at 58 I am not as bendy as I was and it's easier to lay in the footwell with my head on the pedals.
Lower steering cowl and footwell panel off.
Mark indelibly a line across the motor flange, the spacer and the column. You need this to ensure it reassembles in the right place.
Two torx head bolts hold the motor on. An 8mm ratchet ring spanner fits them well.
Undo those then the motor moves outboard to clear the worm drive. It takes a bit of a wiggle and you need to push the clutch pedal right down with the back of your head to get that extra bit of room.
The big power plug will come out easily before you remove the motor, but the smaller two above it are fiddly and it is easier to lower the motor down so you can see them. One is ty-wrapped to the motor preventing the motor resting on the floor, so have snips handy and take the weight while you clip those off.
Refitting, in the best Haynes manual tradition, is the reverse of removal.

Once the motor is out, find the ECU testing ebay advert:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/401352168863

Buy the service then wait. They will contact you to confirm your email address.
The timeline for me was:
Sunday evening - buy the service on eBay
Monday 0800 - they contacted me to check the email address
Monday 0900 - paid DHL label emailed to me
Monday 1200 - DHL collected the parcel
Tuesday 0730 - text to say the engineer was starting
Tuesday 1000 - text to say the unit was fixed
Wednesday 1200 - DHL returned it!

It comes with a lifetime warranty as well.

As I said, if you want to PM me we can exchange contact details and I can talk you through it.

Can you leave the key barrel on the column
Thanks
You are not changing the column, just the motor that powers it. I have a complete column here. I think a WhatsApp video call would help you a lot
