Power mirror guidance

Hi all

Anyone steer me in the right direction here please

Fitted with power mirrors- only the drivers side actually moves/works

I think at some point the car has had a knock which has removed the passenger mirror- how can I tell if it’s been replaced with a motorised or non-motorised one?

I’ve got it in bits but it’s not immediately obvious if it’s got a motor in it?

Will post a pic for reference

Cheers

Stuart

You could compare the wires on driver and passenger. If you think there is a problem with the door loom, I’ve used the passenger side and plugged in both mirrors to fold them. So wiring is the same. You could try plugging the passenger into the driver side loom and pushing the fold button? Should help you troubleshoot...

Also in agreement, no idea where the motor is. It must be tiny and hidden somewhere!

Good shout

I couldn’t move the mirror by hand so did think maybe it was driven

You can fold a electric mirror manually .
I did swap a damaged passenger power fold mirror for a fresh one about 18 months ago , didn't take pics but i have a hunch that one you have is purely a heated / manual one :( think there was another connection

Nads

Yeah I think you may be right

Although I didn’t find any random unused plugs in the door

Thinking again , i think it was just one connector but perhaps the power fold one has more cables in ?

Looking at your photo it looks like you don't have part number 5 on this diagram.

For reasons the OP will appreciate I'd love to know whether that "drive" is the same for electrically adjustable as for "power-fold".

Taking mine apart today I found this behind the mirror.

Morning Iain

No I’ve got part 5- that’s the mirror mounting movable part which I had to take off to get the housing off

I should have shown the photo of the parts on the floor!

I think I have an answer

My loom has 5 wires which I think (comparing to a picture of powered mirrors for sale) have 7 wires- deffo some yellow

Ergo- mine is not powered

I didn't want to fold mine without activating the motor, it's an old part and didn't want to stress it or break anything!

I have had a manual folding one before, one side was super easy, the other really really stiff! I guess it just depends on how frequently they've been used?
I've always thought folding just one side looks a bit strange on the Zed since they fold up!

Ditto- hated the e46 folding upwards mirrors- looked well weird

I actually love the look of the "bunny ears" lol
I just don't like the look when only one is folded up. Just looks a bit odd!
