hi, been reading about the rpi ram air scoop mod which gives 12 rear wheel horse power on the s54 , anyone fitted one, that is a cheap power mod if its not over hyped. anyone @

I think they might have missed the decimal point out - you'd be lucky to get a 1.2rwhp increase out of it - as 12rwhp is as much as you'd get for a remap, intake & cat-back exhaust.
Again, I'd want INDEPENDENT proof of the claims, not 'testimonials' and 'in-house research' from those with vested interested (where's that old cynic smiley) - after all they don't guarantee any increase, they just say you 'should see' an increase - and who's doing the before & after measurement :?
If you took all of RPI's claims at face value, you could get as much power as a CSL by simply fitting their intake and exhaust :slaphead:
Do it for the noise, do it for the looks, but DON'T do it for the power increase.
I have the RPI scoop and it seems to allow the car to rev slightly more freely at higher rpm but any increase in induction noise is minimal. You won't notice any significant performance change unless you drive everywhere at 5-8000rpm. Even then, the difference is less than that between using 95 and 99 RON fuel.
I've subsequently fitted the aFe cold air induction system to mine as well and there's loads more noise. There is a noticeable modest improvement in acceleration too, but again only at high revs. As before this is manifest as the car revving more freely especially at speeds over 100mph.
Both of these mods are intended to increase ram air flow, so the benefits are most marked when ram is greatest and the engine is most air hungry ie high revs under high load at high speed.
My advice, forget the scoop. If you want more noise change the intake. If you want more power, look to forced induction or modifying major engine internals.
Edit I've not seen any reports of improved performance from remapping the S54 either...
