Power fold side mirror gets stuck in up position and won't go down

Is it easy to do? Any pics?

Yeah pretty easy. Depends how far you want to go, you could take the whole thing off if you wanted. But probably better left in situ.
If you're taking it off in situ, the mirror comes off (that's kind of complicated if you've never done it - theres a guide somewhere). Then some screws come out of the bottom and middle section of the mirror cover. This means the cover (2 sections) comes off and you've got access to the main body of the "mirror". It's actually quite complex to explain!

I'll repeat over the summer and take some pics then :)

Hi Kis

Just reading through your posts - I've got this going on - mirrors go up, I can I get them to go down if I don't let them fold up completely, otherwise they fold up completely, then only the driver's side unfolds UNLESS I give the passenger side mirror a helping hand...it looks like it moves slightly but the mechanism is getting stuck on something, hence not not unfolding from completely folded.

I'll try what you've suggested (leaving the mirror in situ) but can I just ask, when you say the mirror comes off - do you mean the mirror glass with the heater element/mounting with circular fitment that you'd normally prise off when replacing the mirror glass?

Also the screws that come out of the middle and bottom section of the mirror cover, are these located behind where "the mirror comes off"?

I'd like to give this a try as the garage are saying that it might be the module that is located in the driver's door, but I don't see that being the case and think it's more a case of them needing a clean and lube!

Thanks in advance.

Bad diagnosis from their side which will incur unnecessary costs.

I simply popped off a plastic plate under the mirror with the single spline screw, then blasted the pivot point with compressed air followed by some silicone spray.

Picture above is from another thread, i did this job with the mirrors folded and attached to the car along with the windows down.

Worked like a charm for me although when folding down, i do get a loud click however, with all the crap blasted away, the motor can at least overcome whatever mechanical resistance there was that stopped it from folding out before. In my case, issue was on the driver side mirror. Passenger side works as normal.

Brilliant thanks, I'll give this a try over the weekend

Both of mine are stuck up.
They started moving up and down randomly when the car was parked up and locked.
I'd assumed it was water ingress shorting something out and hoped it would sort itself when it dried out but no joy, now they are just stuck in the upright position
I've tried the clean and WD method and have checked the fuses (no 27) but no joy so I assume it's the module.

Is there a way of manually returning them to the working position so I can drive it?

You will have to force it by hand. Seems a bit scary at first but it works fine. I used to do this as well back in the day, before i resolved the issue. Would fold up electronically, fold down by hand.

It will require quite some force and angle adjustment so take care with it
