Power-fold mirrors - pre-wired on February 2004 E85?

I’ve got a February 2004 built E85 and I’ve been gradually retrofitting some OEM options.

So far I’ve found the car was already pre-wired for:

* Heated seats
* Multi-function steering wheel
* Cruise control

All of those were basically plug-and-play once the correct parts were fitted.

I’m now looking at retrofitting OEM power-fold mirrors and was wondering whether anyone knows the chances of the wiring already being present on a February 2004 build.

Has anyone found their early E85 was already pre-wired for folding mirrors, or should I expect to run additional wiring into the doors?

Also, once everything is fitted, do the mirrors require coding, or will they work straight away with the correct mirrors and switch?

I am 99% sure powerfold needs the mirrors, module and button on the switch, but loom is there up to Oct 04

But dimming photochromatic mirrors need loom adding regardless of build date

The doors don't always have the wiring, sometimes you get 1 door, both doors or neither doors. However the chassis of the car will be wired up for powerfolds on a February build 2004 car.

If you need some powerfold mirrors then I have some.

I’m not quite ready to do the retrofit yet, but it’s something I’m planning for soon. I may end up buying a donor car, but if that doesn’t happen, I’ll definitely keep you in mind for the mirrors.

5 wire are standard heated
7 wires with a yellow wire are folding
9 wires with a put pipe one are photochromatic

Yes they are powerfold and wired for dimming mirrors

Lurking around, but I've always been interested in retrofitting my 2004 Z4 with the auto-dimming mirrors. To check whether I'm wired up, would I need to remove my door panel? Or remove the mirror?

I think a good clue is your Z4 build date otherwise door card off and look at the loom and look at top info the other guys have given in this thread

Ah gotcha, any easy way to find my build date? I have the window sticker from the dealer in 2004 and the vin if there's some decoder?

You too, right? I've always wanted the auto-dim mirrors. I drive a lot at night and tons of big trucks are in the US. They are at the right height that it blinds me to even try to look back.

So far so good when I have retrofitted stuff.. yes that’s what the guys were mentioning they are the photochromatic ones you need

Does the rear view mirror auto dim? If so then the side mirrors wiring connects to that and the rear view mirror is the master controller for the dimming.

The wiring you'll be missing will be in the actual mirrors. So you can't just buy auto dimming mirror glass you'll need the whole door mirror to be replaced.

Dimming glass is expensive brand new. I'm unsure whether dimming glass from a right hand drive car will work in a left hand drive car so sourcing from the UK may not be an option. It's to do with the reflection angle of the mirror and not a compatibility problem.

If you're willing to buy brand new glass and just want the wiring for the mirrors I have some wiring looms for the mirrors I can ship over to you.

Oh man, I wish my rear view was auto dim -- that would be sooooo helpful.

So even if I do find an auto dim rear view and driver side, I wouldn't be able to use them b/c I don't have the wiring in there?
