POWER DROP

Good Evening,
Now - in girl speak - be gentle !!
- have Z4 , 2005 2.2se, had a full service last week . I've notice I occasionally lose power - just for a mili-second , was pulling on to a roundabout and didn't seem to be pulling forward, I dipped the clutch , checked the gear , made sure I was in first, pressed the accelerator and off we went. I thought I must have left it in 2/3rd. Couple of times when breaking to turn a corner it seems to hang just for a moment - then off again.
Not sure if it's me getting used to the car or .... any ideas ?

Have you checked the air filter and MAF is clean?

Has the car recorded any faults?

Air filter was changed in the service - no faults on the dash. The engine light - the one that looks like a little engine came on 2 weeks ago - was re-set after the service

I had an occasional hesitation with no warning lights - the fault was still recorded and it turned out to be a VANOS solenoid. Might be worth having the codes read rather than just resetting. If you don't have a cable - get one, will save you a fortune!

thanks - will give it a try. Do you mean buy my own reader ?

I had this, a very slight & occasional hesitation which turned out to be a coil pack, my BMCables code reader software showed "cylinder no1 misfire" when eventually the coil pack failed completely.

Yes, buy your own cable - saves double the outlay on your first use! Got mine from BMcables. There are plenty of faults that are intermittent and so don't debounce the EML but are still recorded.

The BMcables software can be a royal PITA to get working though, seems incredibly fussy as to which PC it'll install on, that's after you've wasted hours on it, good when going though, managed to program a few options on mine such as triple flash on indicators.

During the install of the software turn off the Anti Virus temporarily.

Also recommend setting any Anti Virus to exclude the install folders for any of the software.

This works for me on Window 7 and will try on Windows 10 soon!
