Powder coated dash and console trim

Had my Alu dash and centre console powder coated in a satin black. Fantastic work as usual by Triple S in Bingley. You can send off your parts to them and they’ll work on them and send them back.

They also did my split-rim 108s. Fully split and restored with new bolts. Really great quality. 🤜🏻

Interesting...
A couple of years ago, I mentioned this idea to the place that powder coated my wheels but they reckoned the plastic component of the fascia trim wouldn't withstand the heat of their oven.

It was £180. The trim is all metal so can withstand the heat easily. It’s all in the prep though.

I thought it was plastic with an aluminium type finish?

I'll need to have a proper look at mine. Always thought it was made of plastic.

Nope it’s metal throughout but you have to take the two white plastic screw bits out around the radio area.

The brushed aluminium trims are a bonded sandwich construction. 1mm Alu outer layer and 2mm Alu inner layer sandwiched together with some kind of resin. They are pretty solid. There was a base spec plastic trim too, although I have never seen one; [ref]Bigwinn[/ref] had it in his breaker I think.

Still in the parts bin

I'll need to see how easy it is to get everything off without snapping it or breaking anything else.

I would love to get mine done but I'm miles away from that area so I'll get it done locally

Pretty easy to get it all off to be fair if you watch YouTube videos. Honestly can’t recommend triple s enough. All you have to do is Mail the bits off to them.

It’s a bit of a leap of faith getting the centre console trim out. It all has to be done in the correct order and there’s a high likelihood of breaking plastic lugs/catches removing the rear console, which you have to do.
The dashboard trims are OK. If you can remove the peg at the left hand end, the rest is easy.

Yeah the dash seems far easier to do but people still end up losing clips into the abyss even guys who have done several now.

I watched a couple of YouTube videos.

I'd prefer to have a professional remove and re-fit tbh. I might ask my mechanic to do it but I'll likley need spare clips. Then the centre console those are impossible to get a hold of now. I have the file but online companies have a minimum order of £40 worth of clips and where the guy on here was selling 8 for £6 it's more like £3-£4 each it works out as after postage.

Ideally need to find someone local with a 3D printer and just bung him a tenner for 10 or something. Apparently all libraries in Scotland have them but I can't see anything about getting access to one on 3 different library websites I checked. So they are all likley still in the box in a storage room somewhere

The clip on the left hand side of the dash just needs manipulating. I got stuck on it but best to take the glove box out to see what you’re dealing with so you don’t snap anything. I found the centre console dead easy to do by following the videos. And once you’ve removed them, fitting them is dead simple.

Here’s some more pics of the finish:

Note the dent on the right hand side of the radio. That was already there before the coating work without me realising. I’m getting another one done to replace it.

Hey,
Photos look great! Can you direct me to what video you watch on YT for removing centre console, please? Not many good examples on there!
