Well i finally picked up my E89 30i yesterday..its a 2010 BMW AUC and has done 26K. Its lovely except that its poverty Spec….the first thing i want in it is CUP HOLDERS, i can't believe that these are not standard fit. It was th same on my old E85s though. Can anyone tell me if these can be retro fitted (on the E85 it was just a question of swapping the Vents out) and what is the cost? Also my car hasn't got blue tooth but i removed the parrot system i had in the E85 and intend to install it in the new car….can anyone tell me how is the head unit removed? and the iso / SOT lead requirement…if looked on line and it lists two…long and short pin……..

Thanks guys

The cup holders are useless IMHO, I have them, never used them, they're in such an awkward position under the arm rest. You can buy the parts to take out the original tray and insert the cup holders, take a look for the part numbers on RealOEM. Personally I'd keep whatever storage you have under there, its more useful.

I've sent you the full spec back and yes it would appear fairly basic (but still not bad). Use your VIN at realoem.com to find the centre armrest and parts you need to retrofit the cup holders if you really really want them.

I just realised they ave sold me the car and not supplied a wallet with a owners manual or service book :(

i Aint took any yet…do you still have to post the pics through a hosting site? To be honest…I'm feeling really underwhelmed by the E89, i thought id love it…it just doesn't feel special to me…. Even down to the Radio..its the professional…it sounds average but has no power to it…id say the whole car feels average and luke warm :( I loved my e85s and they felt a hoot…not getting that vibe with the 89

Well that's a shame. Perhaps don't focus on the toys and take the car out, roof down if you can, for a good thrash. That's what sold my car for me, faster than anything I'd owned.

That wouldn't work for me…iv just come from a Cayman S and have Owned TVRs, SL 55 AMG, Evos ,Skylines etc…its not about the speed…I'm just feeling really underwhelmed. Maybe when the sun comes out il feel better. It has all the big Visual Stuff like M Styling, Sports seats, M Steering Wheel, but nothing that makes the journey a better one….I need some upgrade ideas, il fit the parrot kit, that'll give me bluetooth and dab and Music streaming, but the Hifi will still disappoint. I definitely want cup holders but just spoke to BMW and they said there is NO retro fit option for my model….on top of that…my hifi is supposed to be prepped for DVD and multi changer but BMW say thisisnt a retro fit option :(

The DVD multi changer is over a grand, forget it. If you have no iDrive, why the need for DVD? I'm trying to avoid the obvious question of why you didn't check into the things you now feel underwhelm you. But, you have the car now so that would be silly. If there's no rain, get out in the car, get the roof down and have a ride through some country roads giving it some beans. Go on....

Edit: As for the cup holder thing... there may not be a retrofit 'KIT' but you can change those parts, a screwdriver and the bits are all that is needed. As for other upgrade ideas, if you're happy with the look, then what do you feel is underwhelming, the performance, the equipment...?

Im not sure, the car was a great price and it was from a BMW main dealer so comes with a years warranty which was important to me…i bought the car unseen, as i was on an oil rig at the time. I suppose I'm just used to fully specced cars…but its bloody annoying that even the basics arnt there….bloody hell..cup holders in a 2010 BMW. The car will probably grow on me but i love my music and the power of the hifi is a major thing for me…a 2K corsa has better sounds. Its just very disappointing. Where do you guys store things like phone or CDs?

I've not heard the basic non iDrive hifi setup so can't comment, but I'm sure you must be able to hook up an active sub or something like that to give it some oomph. You can also add tweeters to the doors in those little plastic triangles. I have iDrive and this stores all my music on its own internal HD, as well as the USB interface in the armrest which you can plug USB sticks into with more music, check yours. There's also the phone connector in there if you have bluetooth (which you say you don't). The DVD's I have are stored in the glovebox or the storage box in the centre of the seats (part of the storage pack).

I'm speechless to be honest! Not sure what you paid for the car, but just about everything you've listed could have been avoided, and none of them are really a poor reflection on the z4 - it's simply a reflection on the spec of the model you have bought and as for the service book, if it was a main dealer they will definitely have it, no bmw dealer touches any stock without the history. Just ask them for it? And cup holders for e89 seem to be on eBay for £40 or so.

BMWs have always been a car with a huge options list, and hence there will be a few out there with lower spec, but I've also owned a gen2 Porsche Cayman and a TVR and both had much less in the way of options than the bmw!

Granted the z4 can feel a tad dull on the normal commute, but when the sun is out and the roof is down, that's when it's at it's best.

If you really don't like it, just sell it, no one is wedded to their cars!

Sounds like you could use the distance selling act to send it back. You have seven days, even with a car.

I don't mean to imply that the E89 is a poor car but the first time i got into and drove an E85 it felt special, light fun and different. Maybe the E89 is a totally different product evolution. It feels a quality product and very grown up…i can't fault the car in that way. It'll grow on me as the weather improves maybe and i can get it out and about. I know i seem a bit negative and thats not like me. If anyone has the link to the ebay cup holders, please post it me as I'm not seeing any.

Just something to try on the stereo - are you fading the music to the back of the car? - I did that when I first got mine and it dont sound good - thats what I have had on all my past cars - You need to fade the music to the front of the car to give you more umph!
