not sure if the cable has been developed further but the sound quality on the AUX cables when I had one is terrible. There is lots of discussion on here about it. I "think" it clips some of the sound, but depends how fussy you are.

Its not the cable...its the actual aux channel itself that doesnt have the punch of the cd player which you cant do much about other than install a new head unit, sound reproduction seems just as good with my fruity car cable..its just not as loud so you turn it up a bit more

If you install this, do you lose the standard AUX port?

This box actually has an aux input on it I think it would keep the standard aux input aswell as it spoofs the CD changer but judging on what people have said about the standard aux sound quality I think this may be a better option as it has great sound quality. You if you wanted to keep the standard aux cable position you would be able to run the wire into this box instead of directly into the head-unit

Not sure it was just volume on mine it sounded like a chunk fo the frequency range had been clipped (I know others have similar experience) I would have gone DiCE but it was expensive and not very reliable when I looked, those cheap boxes look a good way forward or replace HU or AUX line in if youre not fussy on sound quality and just want some musical noise

I know what you're saying.. mine felt like it had lost all its low end/bass when i first put it in but was able to bring it back first using the poweramp app then tweaking the stereo controls... i may have been a bit more fortunate to have the professional hifi with dsp so was able to bring it back upto a decent sound, be interesting to hear how others with the flimper spec stereo get on with it... for the price it seems reasonable vfm.. obviously anyone wanti h a more audiophile experience will want to splash on the more expensive options

Just a quick note on this, you need to make sure you fully disconnect the CD changer wires (accessed through the hatch in the boot) as even though you disconnect it from the back of the headunit to wire this one in the car still thinks its connected unless you fully disconnect the boot cables too.
