Potholes damage

Well today has not been great I hit a massive pothole that has wrecked both the passenger side tyres on my Z4 one has a chunk missing from the sidewall  they are completely wrecked. Car is being looked at tomorrow by my local garage I am concerned there is more damage I will be amazed if there is not. The impact was pretty hard it was on a 30mph road and the pothole was full of water so I never even saw it.

Anyone have any experience of claiming against councils for this sort of thing ? I have already reported the pothole including pictures of it and the damage to the tyres. Hopefully it can all be fixed quickly feeling pretty fed up about it at the moment :(

You can only claim if someone else had reported it before to claim negligence by the council.

Can you check to see if it was reported before?

http://www.fillthathole.org.uk/hazards/map I think is one way to check. Not linked to government etc but meant to be one of the quicker ways of actually reporting them. Map shows ones reported through the site

That site worked well by the way for me, I reported to craters in my road and they were fixed in a few weeks.

It does not appear to be on the map. Thanks for links and the information I won't let this go easily the pothole needs sorting it's very dangerous I'd be amazed if it's not damaged other cars. I have reported to the council directly and through the .gov link. I will be furious if I can't get compensation for this.

Get a friend to phone council up tomorrow, then you phone them on Tuesday. You need to check on Tuesday morning that they haven't been and filled it in :) and that the quote for repair work is dated after Tuesday.

Well the good news there was no damage to anything other than the tyres :) and I have my car back and all is well :driving:

Council are sending me the forms to try and make a claim so let's see how that goes.....

This was the culprit this morning not full of water

Best advice I can give is don't be fobbed off. They'll come out with the usual crap that the "road was walked and no problems found" but fight your corner and play their game. Then wait for the silly offer and reject it advising you will engage your solicitor. With a little bit of luck you'll get a full pay out. BTW I always report (at least locally) pot holes and the sort via "fill that hole". As PVR said, once it's online the local council cannot deny knowledge and this is why I report. Worked beautifully for my son when he demolished his tyre and provided evidence i.e. mine that the hole had already been reported. Got a full pay out plus a little for his trouble ;-)
Got to say "fill that hole" is brilliant and once reported the council cannot wriggle out of their responsibilities.

whereabouts in nottingham is that? i would avoid it like the plague until its sorted lol

I looks large but not that deep although the angle of the pic might be deceptive, surprised its damaged the tyre to be honest.

Did you measure the depth?

Tim.

It was paplewick lane in Hucknall you are safe now I had an email from the council saying they repaired it last night.

Yeah I measured it the picture does not show the depth it was just over 4 and half inches deep. Given the size I think it's been there a while.
