Pothole caused loud rattle in roof mechanism in boot?

Was driving along and went through a puddle and didn't realise there was a pothole and after the loud bang (not particularly hard, have had worse) I noticed an imediate rattle from my behind left in the boot, pulled over and found a screw in the boot.... A quick look around and I can see where the rattle is coming from and where the screw should go. I vaguely remember noticing the screw was different to the other side a few weeks back when I was working in the boot fitting my new boot handles.

Would this screw falling out cause any damage and where/how would I order a direct replacement?

im not gonna even attempt opening the roof untill this is replaced as scared it will cause all the mechanism to twist and not work correctly (which is annoying as ive just got my Gaptech RCH+ to fit)

i think its item 9 off of here.... but cant find where to purchase it online, any help greatly appreciated :)

Ive just been out to look at mine, the screw that is still in place (the torq or star drive) remove that and use it to match the one thats missing. The roof mech shouldn't move anywhere, like you said don't attempt to lower the roof until both screws are replaced. These aren't the only fixings for this trim/mech, there are bolts towards the bulkhead area.

Thanks so much for your help, I've got a little more peace of mind knowing it won't make it any worse as such, I need to find somewhere online to be able to order a replacement now.

Thanks again for your help :)

There would be no problem if you operated the roof with this screw missing - it is only attaching the movable panel which acts as a floor for the roof stowage compartment when in the down position, and isn't part of the roof mechanism itself. As long as this is sitting in the lower position everything will be OK. It would seem that the bodged self-tapper that fell out when you hit the pothole must have been in place for some time, anyway.

Yea im 100% with you on that, previous owner must have bodged it with that self tapper, as mentioned I noticed a few weeks ago and was planning to sort it once car is paid off and all the "little" OCD things that need sorting like this and other minor things(Altho this has now escalated). Car is all paid off now so the next couple of weeks will have plenty of posts from me regarding small niggly things from arch access panel screws need replacing as mine are slightly rounded off to a new ashtray as mine doesn't sit right lol

Thanks again everybody for the help, as always helpful and informative and helps me sleep knowing it's not as bad as I 1st feared :)

quick update, ordered a new screw from BMMINIPARTS for about £7 (so i got 2 just to be sure as the screw was only about 50p of the cost)
i have used a temp screw with a washer to screw and hold it down for the time being BUT i still have a rattle(albeit not as bad), i cant help but think that whilst it was loose it has loosened or unclipped something else? i was going rnd a corner with the music down to listen and it sounded like something slid from left to right, like a plastic clip sliding along the internal roof tray thingy? also the fabric bit looks like its unclipped?

sorry if its a bit vauge ill try and get some pictures or a video of what i mean over the weekend and hopefully you can see what i mean and suggest a few things.

long shot i know but i dont suppose anybody had something similar and can suggest anything until i get a vid/pics up?

thanks, Jamie
