Potential Z4 Newbie in Hawaii

Aloha Z4 Ohana!

I’m currently looking at a 2003 Z4 3.0i Roadster on the mainland.

My niece is helping me because of our travel restrictions.
Her husband transports vehicles. So, I’m hoping that a test drive and mechanical inspection will result in positive outcomes.

If so, then I will make the purchase and have it shipped to Hawaii.

What are some of the high price maintenance items that need to be done by a BMW shop/dealer vs a DIY?

I’ve done some of my own repairs to my truck, like replacing the water pump, and smaller things like that.

I’ve read that the motor for the retractable top is best placed in the trunk? Any thoughts about that?

Mahalo,

John

Really strange.....just finished watching a TV programme about Hawaii and thought I'd have a look in the newbie section which I haven't done in years! You do live in a beautiful part of the world!
Welcome to the forum, hope you potential zed turns out to be a good one.
Regarding the roof motor, it is best if you move it to the trunk ( boot in the UK) not to difficult so long as you are physically fit and not too large a person.....lying on your back in the trunk pulling like crazy on the motor to yank it out of its mounting is not funny!

If you are handy with a set of spanners, if you can change a water pump sounds like you are, you shouldn't need to visit the BMW stealers.
If you get the zed don't forget to upload some pics!

Aloha,

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I ended up getting it and just love this car. I added two pics on a nice drive around the island

Glad you got a Z4 and it looks great, especially with no front licence plate.

Over two years for a reply. :o
I'm guessing things move at a slower pace on the Islands? :D

😂 that’s what we call living on island time! TBH, I posted this and then totally forgot about it. Then I saw something from this forum and logged in. I was honestly surprised to see a reply to my original post

Keawaula Beach. :D :driving:  Never been there, just to much time playing / driving a AM 177 along there in TDU2, when it came out.

Welcome from Cornwall, home of British surfing..
