Update!

I asked about price and if he’s willing to negotiate on it and this is what he said

‘Yes it’s a fixed price. I’ve owned the car 10 years and got receipts of the services, the other history prior is available from BMW, I’ve just not got the book’

I don’t think it’s worth looking at as I wouldn’t pay the price and he’s not willing to budge. Probably why it’s been up for sale for awhile. Shame, but it’s his car, I guess we’ll see if he lowers it at all 🤷🏻‍♂️

The market is flooded right now with some very decent examples at more than reasonable asks but there is also no end of donkey's out there :( the more you study the more you should get a feel for what a certain car at a certain standard should be up for .
If the car had history & came across as requiring very little imminent spend then his ask isn't that silly for what is seen as a sought after colour ( by some  )
If the car is of interest id simply drop in that you would be willing to view / take it further but feel the ask is £750-£1k too much & list the reasons why you think it is , after that if he spits the dummy then its adios , if he chooses to get involved in negotiations then maybe a mid point can be reached

Yeah that very true, I think I’m going to wait and see what else comes on the market. The colour is that drew me in but I think we have all agreed it’s too much, if he’s not willing to budge fair play, if he sticks to his guns he might find someone that will buy it.

Onwards and upwards :D

If it’s not too far from you it could still be worth a look even just as a reference point for viewing others. While arranging that I’d mention price and your budget again.

I know you like the colour, as I do, but out of his small customer base looking for an E86 an even smaller % of that pool will like this colour making selling maybe even more difficult given the number of good quality, more desirable/popular colours that are more keenly priced. He could be sitting with this for some time.

I also agree 100% with you, it’s his car and he can ask exactly what he wants and stick to it but you are also being upfront and telling him how you view it, your budget and what you’re prepared to pay for a car. If you can meet somewhere in there grand, if not movie onto something that fits your criteria

I approached a few sellers when I started looking for a car and budget/price was a discussion point as they all required varying levels of work and I factored it in when discussing price and made a fair market value to each of them. We couldn’t come to an agreement so I thanked them for their time and moved on. 3 out of the 4 of them got back in contact with me again and said they’d had no interest and would accept my offer. One of them is still for sale on here at £750 less than I offered. I’m glad I never got any of them as I’m delighted with the one I got. The only one I regret not getting was the E86 in Hellrot Red that I couldn’t get down to buy quickly enough as it sold almost as soon as it appeared on here

There is a Hellrot Red Coupe for sale in Nottingham, it's been up for sale for awhile, again I'm not sure it's worth the price they are asking for, it also has red interior which, personally, I think it's a bit much have a red car with red interior.

The search continues, that's half the fun!!!

Yes it was out my price range but noticed the other day it’d dropped a grand in price. Probably still a deal to be done at new price.

I agree, not sure if it’s too much red. Wondered if that’s why the roof is wrapped black to break it up a bit.

I was initially going for E85/6 but then price started crossing over with E89’s and living on the wet West Coast of Scotland I started thinking more about the overall practically of the tin top convertible. Then a lovely one came up on here from a long standing member so the condition and care the car had been shown was a huge factor in my decision to buy that one. And after a wee bit of negotiation just snuck in almost on budget :D

Good luck with your search, most definitely a good part of the fun
