Update!
I asked about price and if he’s willing to negotiate on it and this is what he said
‘Yes it’s a fixed price. I’ve owned the car 10 years and got receipts of the services, the other history prior is available from BMW, I’ve just not got the book’
I don’t think it’s worth looking at as I wouldn’t pay the price and he’s not willing to budge. Probably why it’s been up for sale for awhile. Shame, but it’s his car, I guess we’ll see if he lowers it at all
If it’s not too far from you it could still be worth a look even just as a reference point for viewing others. While arranging that I’d mention price and your budget again.
I know you like the colour, as I do, but out of his small customer base looking for an E86 an even smaller % of that pool will like this colour making selling maybe even more difficult given the number of good quality, more desirable/popular colours that are more keenly priced. He could be sitting with this for some time.
I also agree 100% with you, it’s his car and he can ask exactly what he wants and stick to it but you are also being upfront and telling him how you view it, your budget and what you’re prepared to pay for a car. If you can meet somewhere in there grand, if not movie onto something that fits your criteria
I approached a few sellers when I started looking for a car and budget/price was a discussion point as they all required varying levels of work and I factored it in when discussing price and made a fair market value to each of them. We couldn’t come to an agreement so I thanked them for their time and moved on. 3 out of the 4 of them got back in contact with me again and said they’d had no interest and would accept my offer. One of them is still for sale on here at £750 less than I offered. I’m glad I never got any of them as I’m delighted with the one I got. The only one I regret not getting was the E86 in Hellrot Red that I couldn’t get down to buy quickly enough as it sold almost as soon as it appeared on here
