Potential Newbie!!

Hi guys, I've been following this forum for a few weeks now and you lot seem a friendly helpful bunch!

I'm in the market for an upgrade from my Bluefin flashed 08 Golf Gti. I've been looking at Z4 M (both C+R), Caymans, Exige and as of today an Audi TTS. I've pretty much ruled out the Cayman as I'm not sure I could live with those fat thighs!! Exige is a little to raw for my everyday car so that leaves me with the Z4 M and TTS.

I took an Interlagos Blue MR out for a test drive recently and I was pretty blown away by the buzz that engine can give you when the revs get up. Theres not alot of choice up in Edinburgh other than the one I drove but there was something about it I wasn't sure about so I decided not to commit. The car advertised in Deutschcarque in Edinburgh if anyone has had any dealings with them?

Other than that, the only other car is a Red MC for sale on the AUC site in Edinburgh but its 29K which seems expensive!!

I took an Audi TTS coupe out today and it was pretty nice. Doesn't have the same soundtrack as the M but sounded good all the same. I'm pretty stuck now. I really like both cars and I don't know what to do!!! Obviously not a bad place to be, stuck between 2 schweet performance cars but its doing my head in.

Anyway, any thoughts would be welcome. Cheers in advance!!

Welcome to potential newbie!

Try the buy/sell section 'cos there are a couple of cracking looking deals on a Sepang bronze R and a Ruby Black C (No I'm not on commission!). 29k sounds like too much for anything other than almost new.

Try a couple versions of both cars before you commit - but I'm sure either would be great.

Bro has a Coxster, mate has 3.2 TT - and I'd still have the Zed (and change!)

I look at it this way....the Zed has looks, performance and looks like it's going fast when parked. The TT looks like a VW Beetle that got stepped on, it goes quick but I wouldn't be caught dead in one. Just my opinion...

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

I'll take a look at the buy/sell section tonight. I can't picture what the Seprang will look like in the flesh. I'd love to try out a few of each but everything is miles away from Edinburgh. I did like the MR I drove so had thought of just buying something on AUC but obvioulsy I wouldnt be able to test it before buying.

There is a nice MR in Top Marques Ltd which I mite make a road trip to visit. Theres also a red MC in a garage in Newcastle I will stop by on on the way home. :driving:

I wouldnt usually be a fan of the TT but the Ibis White TTS looks pretty sweet!!

Whilst I don't want to be seen sticking up for the competition...when you say the Cayman is 'fat' I assume you are not referring to its weight as it's over 150kg lighter than a Z4MC - it's just that the Z4MC disguises that extra weight very well :P

Hi smiffi,

I also came from a MKV Golf GTI to my Z4M Coupe, it's an upgrade i'd definitely recommend :)

The TTS is a pretty quick car, especially with DSG style S Tronic gearbox. It's also very easy to drive very quickly. The M however is totally different car, it's much more of a drivers car, you have to be prepared to get stuck in a bit to get the rewards.

I much prefer the looks of the M though, especially the Coupe. It looks like a proper car and is very rare to see on the roads. TT's are common place and the S doesn't look drastically different from the base model.

Good luck with the car hunt, £29k is very high mind, mine's for sale at the minute for over £10k less!!

Baj, we seem to have the same tastes. Whats making you get rid of the M?

I do like the fact that I've only seen 1 M coupe on the roads and no M roadsters. It'd be nice to have the exclusivity of the M that the TTS really doesn't have. I'm also loveing the bias of this forum towards the M haha. Maybe my subconscious is telling me to ask you guys knowing you will obviously root for the BMW

mmm-five, I was referring to the childbaring hips on the Cayman. It just looks wierd! I've not had the chance to drive one yet though.

That looks a nice car. Usual caveats apply, full BMW service history and ensure running in service completed at 1200 miles.
Had mine over three years and had very little trouble, one wheel sensor go down at 12,000 miles nothing since, not even a bulb! now on 25,000 and still puts a big smile on my face every time I drive it. If I was buying a coupe and cost wasn't an issue I'd get a Cayman though. :poke:

TTS? Never entered my head when thinking about what to buy recently. Would always want a TTRS which IMO are still overpriced at 39k secondhand. Optimistic Audi dealers I guess. I think the price has a way to fall yet too.
I am sure the TT would give 95% of the performance more of the time, but why have a turbo pot when there is the option of one of the great NA engines. Possibly one of the last NA //M engines as well. There is only one choice there!!!

+1

I travelled over 200 miles for the car i have now, it was worth every mile in my opinion. You could ask a nearby forum member to stop by the garage and check out a potential purchase for you to save you a wasted trip, just a thought.

400 miles is my record, but that was only because I got a £5 flight to Inverness from Liverpool.

The 7 hour drive back let me check everything over more carefully and clearly pointed out that a car with no cats & no silencers was too loud for me :P

Anyway, you can get from Edinburgh to Wigan or Warrington in less than 3 hours by direct train and for around £30 (single) - and they're both about 30 minutes drive from me.

You never know, I might be tempted by a cheeky offer from someone who's put the effort into travelling a good distance.

Hello and welcome. That 57 plate car you posted looks nice but you could have a 2008 (08) for much less. My car has a lot less miles too.

I have the Sepang Z4M for sale, 17k miles. I want £20,750 for it ideally but open to a little negotiation. It is has BMW warranty until March 2008 too and 4 new tyres.
