Potential new owner - service history question

Firstly, apologies if this sort of question is regularly asked; I am going to be looking at a Z4 in the coming weeks and wondered if someone could outline exactly what service history the car should have, given that I have been told it has full main dealer history.

The car is 3 years old (2011) and has covered just over 30,000 miles. I would be very grateful for any help, I really want to be able to look over the car's service book, and be confident that it has FSH before potentially purchasing.

Thanks in advance

When i bought my 2009 Z4 at 28k miles from BMW the only service stamp was at 2 years and 21k miles.
Later when trying to get a problem fixed with them i asked for the cars history from the the key, interestingly they said the rear vent mod had been done, also had a new iDrive screen fitted as the original failed.
So i should ask for that info as well.

You used to be able to contact BMW and get a break down of the history and any visits to the dealer via the details below, you'll need the VIN and Reg, have a pen ready as the read all the details out to you!

0906 209 0001 (Calls are charged at £1 per minute). Lines are open 9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday. Calls may be recorded for training purposes.

The phone number above is where to start - all they can tell you is that the car visited a dealer (& the name) plus the date.

You then ring each dealer & get the details direct from them.

For example, when I checked my car (bought last year), it had visited the same dealer 3 times. I rang the dealer & they gave me a breakdown of the visits.

First service for these is at 2 years (so probably the only service that will be in the book / stamped.

Five quid for that call, plus 30 quid for the HPI check will be the best money you can spend before purchase. I would take a look at the car first, if happy do the checks, only then proceed with payment.

When I last used the telephone service they were able to tell me dealer details, dates, mileage and what work was completed, I then contacted each of the dealers and was able to get copies of invoices for a lot of the work, that was about 2 years ago so not sure if its changed since.

Not sure if it was different a while back when you called - I did it in October 2013 (5 months ago) & the only info I could get was that:

(i) It visited XXXX dealer, on XXXX date, milage was XXXX.

(ii) No other information given on work completed - you have to ring the dealer yourself.

Still, it was enough to get all the details, so was quite happy :)

Still good info to have!!

Thanks for all the advice. Does anyone know if the reg number will suffice for me to get the info from the hotline number, or will I need chassis number as well?

I would imagine the selling dealer will have any visit to any dealer available to it on its database. May be worth asking them for a copy of the visits to dealers then call the premium number to validate the info? May save you some subsequent phone calls and shows the selling dealer your a serious punter.

Tony - I was told that each dealer only had a record of visits that had been made to their own dealership.

The central record of everything needs to be got from that history line number.
