Potential handbrake problem

Hi all

Im not sure if anyone can help here. I pulled up on a hill this morning, lifted the handbrake and was greeted with what sounded like a snapped handbrake cable. Tried it once again and nothing. Tried again and it started to work again. A bit confused and concerned there is something else in the handbrake area that could snap. Has anyone else come across this ???

when you say snapped cable, they wont re fix themselves!

so we have to discount the obvious first (like the cable)

i had a hand brake leaver replaced because it once slipped its pawl ratchet system.

sounded very much the same as a snapped cable.

was the leaver in the lowered position when you reapplied it?

I had pretty much worked that a snapped handbrake was not the issue. The leaver was in the lowered position when reapplied.

Do you always use your handbrake? If not perhaps there was a bit of rust you knocked off.

Nope handbrake is always used. There is a fair bit of play in it also (about 4 notches to apply brake)

so it had released itself!

just what mine did!

the leaver / handle was replaced under warranty a few years back
