Potential Coupe trouble spot

Apologies to bring up an old thread, but ive noticed this issue getting worse on mine and a trip to the dealer is in order!

Darren, how old was your car if you dont mind me asking?

Reason being ive heard BMW will only repair this sort of thing under the paint warranty which is 5 years?
Or was yours carried out under the anti corrosion warranty?

Thanks!

My car was registered mid-December 2006 so was less than 5 years old at time of replacement. It was replaced under the anti-corrosion warranty which is 10 years not 5 years which as you said is the warranty for the paint I think. They will inspect it. As long as there are no external signs of damage to the paint it will be valid for a claim under anti-corrosion warranty. Although mine had rotted through in a few places it was clear to see it was rusting from inside not via any damage caused externally. You could even point them at this thread if you need further evidence although not a common problem as of yet.

strangely when i viewed my coupe prior to purchase the matt finish to the boot area had me thinking it was a "cut & shut" :o
so much so i contacted a prominent forum member who wasted no time emailing me pics of his
after seeing his was the same my mind was eased & deal was done :)

Looks terrible! :? I'm sure the dealer will sort it

Well, mine was done over a year ago now. Hopefully others have had theirs replaced by BMW under the warranty too. No problems with the new one.....yet :P

Mine was done last year, paint flaking off on both sides but no rust evident. Resprayed only in same oem matt finish, not checked since but didn't get a new boot lid.

Tapatalking on my iPhone.......

noticed i too have two minor bits of bubling starting , one either side almost where the plastic gap adjuster would touch the tailgate. yours looks quite bad, has anyone considered that the tailgate may be galvanized steel and that the problem may lie with the zinc coating lifting, because when you look closely it doesnt look quite the same as normal rusting mild steel does, just a thought, but either way i would not think bmw would or could deny that its a warranty issue.

Update:

Unfortunately somebody reversed into me and smashed my front bumper in so its a trip to BMW.

However the good news is they've agreed to replace the boot under warranty!
