Potential aircon problem?

Hi all, me again with another problem unfortunately.

I've noticed a few times recently that when I get into the car for the first time that day, the interior feels cold like the air con has just been turned off. This happens when the car has been off and sitting in the car park overnight, so I doubt it's due to me using the air con the day before. I'm in Hong Kong and the weather is in the mid to high 30's now, the insulation can't be THAT good.

I haven't noticed any leaks under the car or any drop in air con performance. Any ideas?

Really don't think it's about the temperature,it's around 27C in the shade here, even at night, so any residual cold from the ac would be long gone after more than 12 hours, wouldn't it?

it would be gone after 12 minutes, long gone in those temps.

hmm thats odd, maybe get one of those fridge thermometers which record highest and lowest temp, they area usually really cheap like around £10 or less. that way you can check the temp when you leave the car and then come back a few hours later and repeat just to see if temps are dropping or raising and try to find a pattern. if it keeps to a set temperature then you know something is working away to maintain a set temperature unless in that car park its AC controlled or something.

only other thing i can think of is if you have some sort of memory function or auto temperature feature in your car. not sure the e89's have that or if you have some kind of after market kit hooked up which has that feature to kick in the climate control in the car.

Don't suppose the car has a climate control timer which can cool the car at a requested time?
This is something that can be set the day before and will cool the car at the time you set for getting into it.
Im sure these systems only work once though and have to be set each time you wanted to use it.

If the AC is operating you will find a pool of water beneath the car, this is condensate from the condenser drain.
As the compressor is engine driven its highly unlikely that it is operating with the car parked and engine off!

E89 does have an 'engine off' heating feature. when you turn off the engine, press the + button on the heater fan control and the heating will stay on until either the battery gets too low or the remaining heat in the coolant is insufficient to heat the cabin.

Nice if your going shopping in winter mmmmm...

I agree it's very odd! I do actual have one of those thermometers, will put it in the car and see what it shows thanks for the suggestion.

I'm not aware of this, I've never set anything and it isn't consistent, it only happens very occasionally.
