Potential 3.0si coupe upgrade to Z4MC

How come you want out of the 3.0 so bad?
The car doesn't have the spec the dealer sold it as having so I'm getting it changed by the dealer. Was jut going to be a straight swap for another the same but it's proving slightly more difficult (so the dealer says anyway) than first imagined due to relative rarity. The Z4M is coming in to the dealer next week and he asked if I would be interested in that....

Drive it. If you like it, you would be daft not to do it. The 335 is a nice car, but it would have to be an M-Sport.

Personally I didn't mind paying extra for the M in running costs, but I just HATE the engine noise and couldn't get on with it. Much prefer the sound of the 3.0si.

The 335 is an awesome piece of kit, it's astoundingly fast given it's size and faaar more comfortable. It doesn't handle as well on the limit, but that's to be expected. The engine power is somehow more usable too especially with a DCT box.

I can sort of understand where you're coming from on the noise front. If all you manage to do is trundle in traffic rather than rev the nuts off it, it does tend to drone below 2000rpm.

Really?

Yep. Too 'gravelly' and 'tappety' for my liking. I much prefer the smoother sound of the 3.0si. I really did try to like it, but every time I just couldn't get over the sound of the engine.

Crikey I am amazed. But to be fair it's all down to personal opinion, just that I've never known anyone not like the noise of the S54 previously. :?

I don't get this "you can't commute" stuff. I commute in city/town traffic a lot with it and it's perfectly usable. In fact I'd even go as far as calling it "docile" in low speed traffic. Mind you I think automatics are the work of the devil so perhaps I just like my cars a bit rougher round the edges than some :fuelfire:

I totally agree. If you want something horrible to commute in, drive a Clio/Corsa or something like a VX220/Elise... The Z4, in every form, is a comfortable car. I'd have no problems with the M as a daily driver.

P.S. I can't be the only one not to like the noise of the engine, but clearly I'm in the minority!

Whoa, I never said "can't commute" I said it was pointless if you're just stuck in traffic. What's the point if commuting in a car with 350hp when 90% of the time you're 6 ft from the guy in front doing 10-25mph and shuffling endlessly between 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

That's what I'm getting at.

Modern Auto boxes are ace.

Fair point on the commute Daffy.

As for modern autos - yes they've improved a lot but I don't want one thanks. I've driven the M3 with DCT and it's ok but I would much prefer a manual. I think the fact that probably Porsche's best drivers car, the 911GT3, is not available with PDK speaks volumes.

I've been commuting in my Z4MC in Glasgow for 3 and a half years and over 30,000 miles. I haven't found it tiresome at any point. It's the only car I have personal use of apart from my wife's A3 and every time I drive that I can't wait to get back into my own car.

Do the swap without hesitation is my opinion, it's the first car I haven't got bored with after about 2 years and I've driven it on all sort of roads and around Europe. These aren't luxury or impractical cars for weekend use only, it's a BMW not a Ferrari. Do it!

Just heard from the stealers - car has gone elsewhere i.e. traded in elsewhere so dealer helping me out has no access to the car. Rubbish! :headbang:

I'm going to ask everyones advice about how i go about either getting a car or money back from the dealer as all this came about due to the car not having spec it was sold as having.... see this topic.

I know it seems silly wanting a car of this type changed because of this issue but its the principal of the thing so I'm taking my chances and seeing what i can get and up until i'd heard from the dealer today it was looking like it was paying off big time! :x

I am surprised they haven't quoted 'Caveat Emptor' and rejected any issue. In law, regardless of them telling you it had something, or even having it written down (although that would strengthen your case), they are under no obligation to help you at all.

If they are prepared to offer you a refund, then I would accept it and find another car. They seem like a very good dealer, helping you with this.

I'm surprised too. Was expecting that to be the case so when they suggested another car I was gobsmacked! Taking too long now so I'm getting a bit hacked off with all the uncertainty so might just see what I can get free servicing wise etc and settle for that.

If they'll give you the price that you paid for it back, I'd do that. It'll be worth more than any servicing package they can offer!

However, if you really love the car, and can live without the Isofix, then I'd suggest asking for 2 free services. :)
