Posting photos on z4-forum.com

There is a limit to the amount of disk space allocated to us for posting pictures. It's probably better to host your photos elsewhere, such as PhotoBucket ( http://www.photobucket.com )

There are a few simple steps to the process:

1. Sign up for a photobucket account

2. Prepare your photos

It is a LOT faster uploading JPEG files than BITMAP files (because they are smaller!) JPEG files usually have a file name that ends in ".jpg" and bitmap files usually have a ".bmp" extension. Some images have a ".gif" extension.

To change a bitmap or gif to a jpg, use the Paint program in Windows Accessories.

Open the .bmp file with Paint and then choose File, Save As, then type in a name and change the bottom box to say "JPEG (*.JPG, *.JPEG, *.JPE, *.JFIF)"

Also try to crop (cut the edges off) or resize (make it smaller) the image so it fits onto the page of this website. Microsoft has a program called "PhotoEditor" (photoed.exe) that will allow you to resize your photos.

3. Log in to photobucket

Click on http://www.photobucket.com if you didn't save a link!

4. Upload your photos

Follow the photobucket instructions for uploading the photo.

First, click on "Browse".

DK_0002.jpg

This pops up a window where you can find and select your photo. Only choose ONE photo per browse.

DK_0003.jpg

Press the "Submit" button.

DK_0004.jpg

It will then tell you when your photo was successfully uploaded.

5. Post your photo here

Once your photo is uploaded, it will be displayed on the photobucket page, with three (very similar looking) boxes underneath it. The bottom box is labelled "Img". Click on the bottom box, and the contents of the box should be selected. Press Control-C to copy the text and then click in the body of a message like this one, and press Control-V.

This will leave a string of text that looks like

....

in the message. But when people read the message, it will actually display the photo like this:

PickleDieKroos.jpg

It's a lot simpler than it looks, trust me! :D

Great write up!

FWIW... you can also have PB resize your pic automatically on upload by setting size options.
You can also resize manually in PB after upload.

in step 5 you click on the IMG code. This puts it in your clipboard. You simply then paste it into the bit where you type and it converts it to a pic for you

Can I insert a pic from my desktop?

Create a photobucket account, then you can upload it from your desktop. The interface then gives you a nice pre-coded bit of text to paste into your forum post. Couldn't be easier :D

Look forward to seeing the pics

Question: how do you post .mpg movie clips on the forum?
You would need to upload it to a hosting service like Youtube and then link to it.
I am assuming that Youtube supports the .mpg format as I don't know for fact that they do.
Hope this helps.

How do you get the pic on the left above your name? Is that the avatar? I've tried to put pic via the options settings on the forum, but it keeps saying the file must be 11k max. Is this right? Seems a really small file size for a photo. Also, how do you put the photo under you postings?
I have a Photobucket account set up with photo's on ready.

Help!!
:(

Send me your pictures and I will resize and optimize it as an avatar. You can attach the pic in a PM or send it to:

[email protected]

Thanks - I'll be taking a few more up to date pics this weekend, so I'll email them on. Thanks for your help.

a few people have been asking lately so i thought id see if this helps just to clarify further

photos: you need to put them on photobucket or similar and copy the link between the button when you post.

if it is photobucket view the photos like thumbnails, hover the mouse over the one you want until a box appears, copy the one labelled image code into your post and there you go.
good luck
