Chris_D said:Well, i suppose I did take a bit of a risk but my love of discovering new biking routes here in Holland overrode the risk factor.
I wouldn't chance loading up a couple of MTB's however, I think your chances of denting will def rise exponentially.
But a 10Kg rack and an 8Kg bike spread over 4 practically vertical load points, 4.5Kg per mounting point is ok. I think the bumper mount points take more of the load due to the position of the bikes.
You could always further spread the load accross the boot mount points with some firm rubber matting.
Just need to be careful around potholes and sleeping policemen.
I'd do it again with 2 similar weight racing bikes.

You think that's enough???Chris_D said:Maybe you could mount the bike frame using layer combinations of:
cotton wool
microfibre cloth
more cotton wool
sheepskin
another layer of cotton wool
angels tears
you guessed it; another layer of cotton wool
the peach fuzz from my thinning pate
cotton wool
microfibre cloth
my nephews bumfluff excuse for a beard
baby comfort blanket
and finally....
a final layer of cotton wool.
Get it sorted!

There are tow hitches out there, but I've only seen them in the US. I'm sure there must someone doing them in the UK.MACK said:Shame they don't do one of those tow bar style bike racks for the zed, the ones where you don't see anything as the mount his hidden under the bumper. I don't fancy putting two mountain bikes on a rack across the boot. I think the extra weight may well dent the boot. To be fair though, till I saw this I though one bike and rack would dent it.
