Post-tsunami Z4

Looks like I put my introductory post in the wrong place (hey, I was just following the long line ahead of me ...), but a moderator has kindly aimed me in the right direction so I'll give it another go.

OK ... Hi,

Here's my new toy:

My toy and I are located in Miyagi prefecture, Japan. I'm Australian, but I've lived here in Japan for a looooong time. And since home, family, work, friends (and Z4) are all here, this is where I stay for the foreseeable. Anyway, so the big earthquake and tsunami made quite a mess of things, and it was difficult to get out and about and enjoy the scenery for quite a few months. But now that the recovery and rebuild are solidly underway (it'll take years, but things are moving ahead) I figured it was time to get out and have a bit of fun.

Thus the Z4.

Only had it for about 3 weeks. It's a 2003 2.5i with nav, audio/CD changer, heated seats ... er ... an engine, a steering wheel ... you know, the usual stuff. It's definitely not as tricked out as some of the rides on display here, but I'm having a bundle of fun with it.

There's lots of great info here, and I'll be lapping up the wisdom.

Cheers for now.

Great to hear from you! And good news that you can get out and about again.

Out of interest, what do you do on the job front that took you to Japan?

It's the engine, steering wheel, chassis and body that are at the heart of 99% of the fun in these things - the rest are fripperies! (Although I do like the DSP audio).

Welcome and enjoy!

I reckon in that part of the world you should be able to get some really different pics that would go well in the monthly photo comp! Although, being Australian, you will of course never be allowed to win it. 8)

Thanks for the welcome.

I've actually been here since I was about 12. My father came over for business and I just tagged along. Went to an international school here in Japan, spent a bit of time at school in the US (Cal. and Boston), and ended up back here because that's where family was. I'm a writer and translator, working mostly in promotion for Japanese manufacturers marketing overseas.

I'll work on that! Shouldn't be too difficult to find a temple that will let me drive a sports car into their painstakingly maintained garden. Or not. But yeah, I'll try and come up with something interesting.

I was in Yokohama up until June of 2009. Love that place, but it's getting a bit touristy and overrun these days (especially the new Minato Mirai area). I'm up north now, in a town called Watari on the Miyagi prefecture coast. More "country," but much better driving!
