Hi All
Had a problem with the roof today it really struggled to close almost as if it was out of power put it back down and it seemed to close ok gave it a try 10min later and it stopped (after a real struggle) right at the point where it engages I left it 5min then tried again and it closed. Not sure what to make of it sounds like it is tired out or lack of power I left it 30min and it seemed to open and close without problem I have it booked in with BMW next week it is under extended warranty but I don't want to take it in if it is something simple that I could fix. I know lots of you have had problems with pre facelift with water intrusion but I would be surprised if that is the cause as I keep it garaged and rarely take it out in the rain. It could be that I am just unlucky and it is a failing motor. what say you?

could be the pump as mine packed up put a new one in perfect :D but sprayed a bit of wd40 on the old one kleened the rust out put it on a battery worked prefect. :headbang: so cleaned and painted it oiled it save it as a spare :D

I'm thinking it is the pump I just hope it if it is it packs up before I take it to the garage.

Just a thought were you operating the roof when the engine was running or just on battery power if the latter could it be a problem with the battery :|

No I had the engine running but it felt like it was not, just did not seem to have the power to lift it.

i had the same problem with my 2006 Z4.Turns out the hydro motor died on me.Waterdamage.Seems that BMW's cure to this old problem is not sufficient.Bmw will not acknowledge this.I did put a lawyer on it.

Did they pay for it in the end?

when you get into the lawyer side of things, things go very slow,so it might be over a year to know the outcome. In the meantime i'll just have to pay...hopefully i will get some money back

Am surprised your having problems with your roof motor and what possibly sounds like motor failure when your Z4 is garaged and hardly see's rain. Have you checked the roof drain holes as if blocked am sure even washing the car will eventually cause water ingress if blocked? Keep us posted please and good luck,I know the feeling :x

Not sure where I stand if it caused by water I can find no advice about checking drain holes in handbook and it is not on the inspection list but looking at the amount of people on the forum who have had this problem I would have expected it to be in big letters in the manual CHECK DRAIN HOLES EVERY MONTH WE HAVE MADE A DESIGN FAULT.

All is well :) new motor in and just the excess £100 to pay, they had to go through all the tests replaced the solenoid it worked then but very very slow then stopped they said they think that was what blew the solenoid the motor was just overheating I think it must have been going for a while because it works a lot faster now. I mentioned about water intrusion they said it was as dry as a bone. It must have just been a duff motor I will definitely be keeping the warranty another year .

Good news ,well done .
Is your warranty the BMW extended from end of 3yr factory warranty

It is what they call BMW Insured warranty I think it is underwritten by a company called Mondial assisance UK it followed on from the year I got from buying AUC but it seems to work the same way once the dealer put my reg into the system it came up with the details it all seemed quit seamless.
