Possible solution for airbag light

Most of the issues with the airbag light seem to be caused by the passenger occupancy seat. Wouldn't it be neat to simply disable the thing? Using the FSW_PSW from the ECU I found the following two entries:

The FSW_PSW has an entry ERKENNE_SBE1_MATTE_RE and ERKENNE_SBE1_MATTE_LI. The passenger is always set to aktiv and the driver is set to nicht_aktiv (I have confirmed this). So if your steering wheel is on the right side ERKENNE_SBE1_MATTE_LI will be set to aktiv, ie passenger sensor is active.

Someone on a German forum seemed to suggested that setting both to nicht_aktiv lets you disable the seat occupancy sensor. This makes sense but I have not been able to confirm this yet. Has anyone tried this on a E85? I have a problem with the airbag light and it seems to be coming from the occupancy sensor. I don't want to spend big cash getting it fixed and simply disabling the sensor would be a much better option!
 
Problem is the passenger airbag will not deploy in a crash and would invalidate your insurance if you had a passenger in the car.

Are you sure? Some people seem to be suggesting otherwise?
 
Resurrecting an old thread here...! :thumbsup:

I'm looking to disable my airbag light as I have replaced my seats with aftermarket Recaros.

I also think changing his parameter will have no effect on airbag operation - there are a heap of other codes to show the airbag is very much active...

Interested to understand where the parameter listed above was found? I've interrogated the ABG ECU in NCS expert (bear in mind it's an M so could be different?) so I'll have a look see for that parameter.

Any other Views on this??
 
Just fit a passenger occupancy bypass module, one at for about a £10 then code the car to switch of seatbelt chime, easy and means airbag will still work
