If the car you're considering has speakers behind seats and ski hatch/storage on bulkhead behind seats then I think that's 10 speaker system...."middle option"as I think "top option" has another speaker in the middle.
I'd also check the pad wear on the idrive and visually the discs...pricy at main dealer so worth considering unless you do your own maintenance.
BTW rear lights were available from ECP...around £250/300 and we're same manufacturer if I recall correctly.

There are either 6, 11, (not 10, as nictrix correctly pointed out) or 14 speakers respectively. :)

I got it wrong with 10 initially as well...

The 14 speaker option still has the rear bulkhead storage/ski hatch. at the top of the bulkhead, between the rollover hoops is a plastic cover in the shape of an upside down trapezium (had to look it up, four sided shape like a triangle with the top cut off). In a car without the 14 speaker option, this is blank, if you remove it (it slides off) you can see where two additional speakers would sit behind it. On the 14 speaker option, this is a speaker grille. There's also an extra tweeter behind the grille on the dashboard.
Cheers, Dave

Worth checking if it has the adaptive suspension and that none of the shocks are leaking if they are its expensive to replace them. Should show up on the Vin Decoder if it does.

Ok guys thanks for the info you have all given me. Just to update, the car is a 3.5i auto 2009 , space grey with red leather heated sports seats ( couple of bolster scuffs and minor interior leather marks ) , pro hi if and pro Nav, DCT , heated steering wheel , extended stowage , extended lighting, ,exterior Mirror package,PDC. With the 296 19 inch wheels. All the wheels were checked today , one has been repaired ( welded ) the rest are sound , new tyres all around . No adaptive suspension though and not M sport. The engine did not smoke from cold although it did sound a little ticky whilst idling but as I remember these engines can sound that way ? Both rear lights have had water in the bottom white section and it's a bits brown and Mankie if I'm honest in the lights now . The car inside was dry, everywhere I looked for signs of leaking , rear boot seals, battery tray, hydraulic roof motor area, behind the seats and both floor pans .The roof works nice and smoothly as it should but the shelf you have to put down to lower the roof as a plastic bracket broken, but that's and easy fix. There are a few chips in the cars paintwork , but nothing really nasty, and in time I think maybe a front bumper respray would make me happier. For a 2009 car I think it's pretty good and with a little TLC I think this would make a very good example . It's got 65,000 on the clock and BMW service history up to 48 k then it's an independent , who also did the mot in April. The car is at an independent dealer who is offering a years warranty ( probably not worth a great deal ! 1000 quid claim limit, unlimited claims ) ..........so........what should I be paying ?

gotcha - I haven't a clue so will wait and see :)

I haven't much idea on price but I'm having a look later to see if I have the 14 speaker set up
Every day's a school day here for me

I'll start the ball rolling, I reckon circa 14k

based on its age, marked leather, no adaptive suspension, water ingress in the lights, welded alloy and mileage is too high to get a bmw extended warranty.

plus points

dct, heated wheel, nav, red leather

Any idea if the 11 speaker system can be upgraded easily to 14 speakers?
Is the wiring already there and its just a case of getting a grill and speakers?

I sort of did this in my previous e89. Bought the rear centre speaker grill, it comes with tweeter fitted in the grill. Bmw speaker off ebay and wired up to piggy back off rear speaker. Improved sound. Cost about £50.

Unless you have an endless budget, I wouldn't crave thousands of speakers everywhere, the dsp isn't up to the task anyway. Much better replacing the mids and tweeters and upgrading the amp (middle of the range hertz stuff, or focal if you want to push the boat out). Exactly what I did and the results are night and day.

I'm afraid I don't know if the wiring is in place, I would suspect it isn't, but it probably wouldn't be too difficult to fit. The 14 speaker system has a 650 Watt amplifier vs 245 Watts for the 11 Speaker system.
There was a thread on this not too long ago:
