possible newbie

Hello guys and girls,
I am in the process of negotiating a deal on a 56 plate z4 2ltr SE with 48000miles. £5300 ??? whats your thoughts?

been reading reviews and this in turn has left me with mixed feelings. Not really one to read too many reviews, but I don't want to make any costly mistakes. some have been very good, others very poor.

Im not looking for outright sports or performance, just a nice wee soft top for touring and holiday on my time off.

My main worry is the noise levels with the roof UP. I had an mx5 before which was incredibly loud with the roof up, I have a sensitive ear so this is my main concern. (obviously roof will be down whenever possible lol, but I do live in Scotland )

So was hoping you guys can put my mind to rest with these things before I part with my Wonga

gary (The stripler)

Get a few test drives even if your the passenger you'll get a idea in compassion to the mx5, IMHO never found it an issue , good hunting

56 plate with 48k for £5300 ? Providing condition, history & the drive are all good then you are in at ground level pricewise . This gives a small comfort blanket should you experience any problems .
Most Z faults are predictable & not overly expensive to sort , the 2.0 though does have a issue with manifolds & EML so make sure you run the car for 30/40 mins on test before you throw your hat in the ring
Noise? its a ragtop so will never be whisper quiet but ive had 2 & found both fine even at motorway speeds
Welcome & hope it works out for you

If its not outright performance you are after, then the 2.0l is a great car - economical to for a 2 seater roadster. Noise levels on Mway not an issue IMO. Nice low miles and good price - do the usual checks: service history, HPI, and go for long test drive as already mentioned. Good luck

Go for it! No problem getting the roof down in Scotland I managed a whole 15 minutes today between showers :driving:

Hi and welcome. I echo the above.

The hood is insulated and a pretty good place to be with the hood up. My only concern buying a 2.0 would be the EML lights and manifold, seeming tricky to get to the bottom of. Personally the old 6cyl M54 engined cars take some beating.

mm. This manifold...and eml light thing seem
to be a fairly common concern..
The car I'm looking at doesn't have any issues at
the moment but it's a worry that this can happen with no warning??
Is it just a matter of time or does it only affect a small percentage of cars.....
I need a reliable car and this is making me think twice

It's a dark greyish in colour and pristine. To be honest for year and miles and price there was nothing else out there to compete with....although ahem I did look at an vw Eos 2ltr tsi.
My first question though is my car has fairly small 17" alloys on it which just don't look as good as most other z4 alloys. If I change these to summit a title bigger will I have to change the springs...

simple answer no
18" on z4m tyres will fit fine
go bigger an you may want different offsets to help any clearance issue, although am sure some 19" will go straight on

Great news...was thinking 18'would be fine tbh. I like the turbine style but will keep an eye on the usual sites for some deals.
Will 18s give more road noise??

Don't think you'll notice much difference in noise, you may find the 17"s you have could be run flats in which case 18s will be more comfortable
